FYI to all - A scammer in the 225 area code just texted me asking if I am interested in these parts. Beware!

Any phone numbers with area codes are available in the "dark web". Some offer a rotating system where no two calls are using the same number or area code.

Your call back is routed to the true recipient. Many shady but legit "Internet Sales" companies use these for camouflage. You will never know exactly where the call is coming from and it could be international even though it is indicating Louisiana.

It is commonly used by people pretending to be celebrities on places like Facebook and offering you personal contact to them. I had one ask me for a contribution to a specific charity.

Personally I've got thousands of numbers blocked and they just call back on a new number.

Some claim to have "traced" the original caller to Nigeria. I don't know how you do it, but that is what some are saying. To trace down the criminal I suspect one would have to be as dark as they are?

It's apparently legal. One of those "loopholes" that are permitted and made possible by wireless phones and devious dishonest minds. It may also be that it is some sort of a "bot" thing origination somewhere overseas where no one has jurisdiction. I don't know the location of that routing sever.

Maybe if the Ukrainians keep blowing up bot servers it will stop for a while? Who knows for sure?
