Saw this on a Lotus page.......look at the Cobra coupe

I think that car also ran at LeMans. It wasn't a factory effort.

#66-Shelby AC Cobra-csx2001 with Jean Vincent at the wheel taking 1st in class
#62-AC Cobra-cox6010-Jean de Mortemart at the wheel taking 5th. 

#66 sported the custom hard top the prior weekend for the Tour de France...with Jean Vincent and Gerard Fagot...out of the racing early with differential problems.  The hardtop is removal for a back to roadster look and or the center section is removable for the "Targa" look.

csx2001 only ran the Le Mans April trials in 1964 not the 24 hours of Le Mans.

That big old Galaxie at the back reminds me of an incident with 5R001. Rick Titus was driving it in a vintage race and was gridded in the 2nd row. Larry Zane yelled out to him "Don't worry about the fenders - there are more in the trailer". Rick said when the flag dropped there was a parting of the red sea as the Ferraris leapt out of the way. 001 was first to the corner.

The lack of roll bars is a statement on racing safety for the time.

The only two cars with any roll over protection are the Jean Vincent/ex-Ed Hugus sold Shelby AC Cobra csx2001 with it's special "T" shaped roll bar and the 1963.5 Holman and Moody Ford Galaxie driven by Fabian at the back of the grid...crazy days.
