KR under hood plenum

Hey Guys,
I'm debating if I should try and refinish the ram air plenum on my KR. It really seems to have a bunch of different shades going through it and just looks like it needs help. If I would go the paint route what would be the best color/type/brand ?

They aren't painted originally. That is black gel coat that was sprayed into the mold before the fiberglass went in.

I have found that paint will not stick to it well and quickly peels off.

I don't know if you can spay fresh gel coat on it but I doubt it. Certainly I have never tried but there probably is a mad dog out there that has?

The other issue is that you really can't remove it from the hood because of the bonding method that Smith used so probably you need to take off the hood to work on the ducting?

OK Yea I already have the plenum separated from the hood from painting it. I have the Huck rivet rented from AMK and what I need to bond it  back onto the hood. ( Thanks for the link Pete !)

You can re gel coat it. Gel coat is a thick coating. The fiberglass is quite porous and full of pin holes and the gel coat is the easy way to get a smooth surface. The ideal way is to chip out all the bad spots clean it with acetone then brush on new catalyzed gel coat finally color sand and buff to get the finish you want. They re gel coat damaged area of boats all the time.
