I was in my way home from SAAC (which was amazing) and in LAX is a cool historical image display documenting the evolution of the airport.

Hi,
That is really cool. Would think this is a picture new to all eyes, and its even in color!
Now comes the questions.....This looks like a 66 possibly a carryover car? (No gauge pod visible on dash and chrome round rimmed type speedo as well as left outside rear view chrome mirror)
Would also be nice to know what the other car is, could be late 20's early 30's

Just to mention it....The other car, Possibly a Jordan? Did you know they offered an "R" model?
The only clue on it is the chrome trim pieces behind the driver. Again Thanks for posting this!!!

GT350Lad, Was that a large poster, a digital display, or what? And what general size was the display? Where inside the airport was it located? Near the baggage claim? Near the ticketing counters? Whatever? I'm trying to track down the exact date of that photo, and online searches are not helping. I may have to just call someone at the airport and ask my questions. The better I can describe that display, the better chance I have that the person I'm speaking to will know what I'm talking about and provide appropriate answers.

Although now retired, I worked at LAX. For years that pic was in the pedestrian tunnel connecting the east and west concourses of the Tom Bradley terminal, north wall.
As I recall, the GT-350 had 1966 door panels.

I think that's correct, it's part of a digital display that tracks the history of the airport. It is paired with the date that first paid parking structure opened in 1965.

Thanks, guys. I called the Flight Path Museum & Learning Center and asked about that display. I was hoping to get a more specific date than October, 1965. They said the display is really old, and anyone who knew anything about the display or the photo is either retired or dead. So...

camp upshur, you think the car had 1966 door panels? Are you sure about that? The lack of a dash gauge pod pegs the car as a 1966, but the reflective sheen on the seat cushion pleats make them look like the smoother 1965 upholstery. Which would indicate a carryover.

A clear shot that shows the door panel pleats would certainly clear up the carryover vs. regular GT350 question in a hurry. If anyone has a picture like that, or will take the time to get a picture like that someday, it would be greatly appreciated.

This has prompted me to go back and check a photo I took a couple or years ago which has slightly better resolution. The ribbing does seem vertical (1965). Perhaps one of our tech saavy gurus can enhance.
On a separate note of triviality, I note the tire is not indexed to the schrader valve and the utilization of external weights FWIW.

Steve A, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the higher resolution pictures! I still have to look close, but your pics show the details needed to draw a conclusion. I now agree with the people saying that's a pony interior. If that's correct, we are looking at 6S001. The only 1966 GT350 to have a pony interior from the start.

I'm going to touch base with Pardee before making a final conclusion. Just to be certain that 6S001 would have been at Shelby American in October, 1965. The Registry says, "It was shipped on consignment to the San Diego Community Concours(San Diego, CA) 8/21/65. On 5/11/66 the engine compartment, interior and exterior were detailed by Hi-Performance Motors (Los Angeles, CA). Date ordered 5/10/66. Shipped to Hayward Motors (Hayward, CA) 5/17/66 as a demo..." And it goes on from there. So the location of the car in October, 1965 does not appear to be certain. I'm guessing that by October, San Diego Community Concours had not sold the car and had sent it back to Shelby American. But will wait and see what Howard says.

This is almost certainly 6S001. But (if possible) I'd like to dot all the i's and cross all the t's before finalizing that conclusion.

6S001 Had a Blue Vinyl Top when new....

The only 1965 or 1966 Shelby with one....

I guess this photo could have been taken before ACME installed the Vinyl Top

San Diego Community Concourse was not a dealer. They held car shows etc there. This was probably the typical public display teaser to get people interested in the marque. I suspect "on consignment" was an accounting field to charge the expenses against sales (local dealer?) rather then taking the money from the ad budget.

The downtown San Diego Community Concourse complex (which included the City Administration Building, Civic Theatre, and Convention Hall) was completed between 1964 and early 1965 as part of an aggressive urban renewal project. By October 1965, it was functioning as the primary hub for San Diego's largest cultural, community, and entertainment events. The San Diego Jaguar Club Concours d'Elegance: Car clubs quickly adopted the area for exhibitions.

SBCARGUY, I've been told that 6S001 only had pony door handles and door panels - not pony seats or any other possible pony items. Can you comment on that?
About the pony interior:
- How do you believe the car was originally delivered to Shelby American? (Pony door panels and handles only, or also pony seats?)
- How was it configured during your ownership?
Finally,
- Do you have any idea if the blue vinyl top would have been on there in October of 1965?
Please forgive me if I'm asking too much. I assume that since you once owned 6S001, you must have done a lot of research on the car.

98SVT, Your explanation about the San Diego Community Concourse is very much appreciated. Pardee has confirmed that 6S001 was only there for a show, and immediately returned to S.A.; where it would have been during October, 1965. But the details you shared help my understanding greatly.

Mention of the blue vinyl top is causing me to hold off on believing this is 6S001, at least for a little while. If 6S001 had that top in October of 1965, then it can't be this car. The quest continues.

Curious as to when you owned it as Jack Schroll the owner of Mostly Mustangs owned it for a long time before it went to auction years ago. I remember the first time I saw it. It was laying on its side in Jack's garage. It had been recently painted by Richard Rodeck.
