A set of two Lucas FT8 fog lights also known as "Square 8" for sale. New condition never used. Brilliant chrome and glass. ENGLAND is etched in the front lower middle of the glass face. These have the later cone grommet as opposed to the small black donut shaped grommet.

Every FT/LR8 lamp is identified with either the words ENGLAND, Made in England or Foreign Glass etched in the front lower middle part of the glass lamp. Lucas started making these lights in 1966 and all were made with the word ENGLAND in the glass until sometime in 1968. At this time the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe together with the US DOT Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) started to more strictly regulate vehicle lighting. As a result, the United Kingdom forced Lucas Industries to mark their FT/LR8 lights with Made in England or Foreign Glass going forward. Lamps sold in the UK would be marked Made in England and lamps sold in another country would be marked Foreign Glass (United States). The marking with the word ENGLAND was permanently discontinued.

Lights made from 1966 to sometime in 1968 can also be identified by the routing of the cable wire through a small black donut shaped grommet. Sometime in 1968 this grommet was replaced with a larger coned shaped rubber grommet. The new grommet was a big improvement providing a rain tight seal reducing rust inside the light and securing of the cable wire. A very early produced Shelby will have the small black grommet then going forward in 1968 all Shelbys will have either the small black grommet or the larger cone shaped grommet. I don't know when these changes occurred in production of 1968, 1969 or 1970 Shelbys. Maybe our experts on the Forum know.

Sometime in 1968 Ford assembled Lucas FT/LR8 lights into kits with attaching parts and Lucas fog light covers. You could buy either the FT8 fog light (flat top beam all fluted glass, what originally came on a Shelby) or LR8 light (long range non fluted glass). The covers were the earliest made ones with the small round peep hole at the top center of the cover. The glass lamp in these kits is marked Foreign Glass.

All FT/LR8 lights can be mounted upright like on all 68 Shelbys, Mustang California Specials, High Country Specials, Mercury Cougar XR7-G's or can be turned 180 degrees for underside mounting like on the 1969 and 1970 Shelbys by removing the two screws on the front and flipping the glass lamp around.

Licensed reproduction Lucas lights are available from dealers such as Tony Branda ($495 plus tax and shipping) but discerning Shelby owners should be aware of the following differences between original Lucas lights and licensed reproductions.
    - By law lights will be fitted with FOREIGN GLASS marked on the glass lamp instead of ENGLAND.
    - Original wire cable outer color is light or dark gray and not black.
    - Original cone shaped grommets are gray and not white.
    - Original wire leads are red/yellow (positive) and black (ground) not white & black.

The price is $500 or best offer plus shipping which is priced to sell and much lower than any other originals on ebay. Also, I will trade up or down for a pair of original 68 Shelby front headlight extensions or lower scoops or black console all conditions and incomplete considered as long as the vinyl trim and stitching is intact.

Please ask me any questions. The lights will be available until I mark the ad SOLD. Please send me your personal email address if additional photos are needed. The lights will be double boxed and shipped UPS ground unless you want Priority Mail. Thanks for reading and comments are welcomed.

Update. Pete Disher pointed out the glass is marked E11. As per my earlier explanation about UNECE/DOT new rules in 1968 stipulated noting where the Lucas lights were actually made. E11 is England. They were also made in France which is E2 or Italy which is E3.

UPDATE: 1/14/26: THE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN SOLD.

You have a great description of the parts being offered.

It should be noted they are not the same as the 1968 Shelby production lights.

Original lamps do not have the circle "E11" markings

Hi Pete,

Yes, you are correct. Thanks for pointing that out. I added an update to my original post to clarify what E11 on the glass lamp means. Original early production 68 Shelbys would not have E11 on the glass as the stipulation to add the country code E11 (England) came out later in 1968.

No, not AI. Most of the description is from a very knowledgeable foreign parts dealer that specializes in vintage car lights that I have bought from over the years.

Is there really a thing as "early production" 68 Shelby Lucas lamps? Since Marchals were used into at least Feb 1968? Marchals were installed  at AO Smith on my car when converted in Feb.1968
