The fuel filter adapter does not typically get a gasket between the threads and the carb. If you decide to put something there for insurance like a thin O ring or gasket be sure that it is not visible once the adapter is installed.  The fuel filter does get a gasket . That gasket typically came in the filter box. The pictures of the filters that you show are shaped like the typical modern evolution. The typically Rotunda marked fuel filter base is thicker and the length sometimes is different.

I use a Power valve gasket between filter and adapter.

Lemans bowls are npt, never overtighten as it isn't needed and only wears out the threads.

funny, my 66 has the large one, yet my 67 has the small none but the filter goes right into the carb with no issues.

Can anyone provide some good numbers for both types of fuel filters? I would like to know multi different brands please.

I am tired of counter he, she, it-s that don't know anything....and never hearing about a 715 on a Mustang from the factory!

I can't comment about quality or flow rate of a given filter but doubt you find anything much better then what  Motor craft offers. The thread was about is what is assemblyline correct.  The old filters are slightly different in appearance then the modern replacements. The large brass adapter was correct from Shelby. Yes, if you don't care about the look of what is assemblyline correct the later fine thread filter will thread on without the adapter.  You have the info now so you can decide what is best for your given situation. Best of luck whatever you decide.
