I have located a Raven Black 68 KR Shelby number 2591. I have many questions about this car as the inner fender does not match the Ford number. Other than that, it's a beautiful car. It is listed in the Registry. I have tried to contact the last owner, a Donald Pealer in Virginia with no success. My dilemma is that he may still own it and I'm not sure what I will be potentially buying. At this point and time, I'm going to assume it's a clone, but I really would like to explain the Tags on the car including the Shelby fender tag, door tag and dash tag. Any information would greatly be appreciated. I can supply my phone number if needed. Thanks Dan

98SVT - was 06GT

Contact the registrar. Send him photos of tags, VIN, etc. You can even post them here for comments from the peanut gallery.

For the kids: A peanut gallery was, in the days of vaudeville, a nickname for the cheapest and ostensibly rowdiest seats in the theater

Excellent that you checked all that. Don't drop any cash until you have all the right answers.

Dan,

For someone who specializes in Chevy's you seem to run across a bunch of questionable shelby products :D

Anyway, the 68 Shelby registrar contact information is below. He will be your best bet in regards to current information on the car.
As for your statement of the inner fender numbers not matching, that is your first clue that the car may not be what you or the seller believes it is. No matter how clean and shiny it it. Give that information to Vinny below as well.

I do not have any info on that car, but a few questions to consider on the fender apron(s) VIN. First is there a second VIN on the passenger side apron? Some 68's have them some don't. If yes do they match? Is the apron VIN way off? Ford/UAW workers did made mistakes but on VIN mistakes that I have seen most of the VIN info is correct. Is Just the engine # (R) missing (left out with a blank space)? If so that is fairly common on 68 big block Metuchen built cars.I hope someone here has some answers for you. Proceed with great caution.

My Jan 68 built does not have a fender apron stamp on the pass side and on the DS the 'T" and the last digit(number) isn't visible in the apron. My car is a real one owner original paint car with the original aprons on it. Partial vin on the head and I cannot find a vin on my "S" trans which of course was only available in a GT500 BUT I have not cleaned it up fully yet to see if it is stamped somewhere else. Trans is original to the car. Never replaced. I knew the original owner and his nephew is a good friend of mine who used to play in the car when he was a kid. Metuchin sucked when it came to stamping. I have the original dash tag(never off) fender tag, buck tag and door tag all which were still mounted when I bought the car. All sheet metal date codes I have found are correct for the car.

My KR #3070 is missing the R on the DS inner fender vin stamping

Well the "Howdy Doody Show" had a Peanut Gallery and was friendlier then the Andy Divine show who had "Frogy" and would leave the set in a cloud of smoke by plucking his magic twanger.

Sometimes here I wished some would?

Make sure the owner has good title be the car a real Shelby or a clone. Take note of the 65 Shelby stolen and returned to the true owner after 25 years that is the subject of this embedded video. Caveat emptor.

Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

UPDATE after comments. The inner fender number is completely different. In fact, it is a C code engine code. I do have the printout from the registry and that is why I mentioned David Peeler. I have tried to get in touch with him to find out his relationship with the car. If he still owns it or has sold it. Questionable Shelbys??? I don't know about that, I have had and still search out Shelbys. Just bought a KR that has been sitting since 82. I have had several clones as well but was well aware what I was buying and selling. Chevys lol. I'm smart enough to own old Fords of all flavors (Cammers, Fairlanes, Mustangs, Galaxies, etc.) but also smart enough to race Chevrolets in today's world. I'll reach out to Coralsnake. Thanks all.

If there is a "c" code vin under the Shelby tag run away.

Its unlikely any previous owners are going to come clean

I don't mind buying it as a clone at a clone price.
