I have owned my 67 Shelby GT 350 since the 70's I'm in the process of restoring the car getting it ready for SAAC 50, car is and will be totally stock, my question is, I have heard rumors that if the tach fails, it will shut down the engine, as one shop told me that it was a flaw in the maker of the tach for only 1967, I have talked to different speedometer-tach shops and seem to not get a clear answer, one shop talked about converting the tach to a 3 wire, and or converting to an electronic system, same tach just the mechanism changed, has anybody had an experience with this issue? Any advise will help, thanks, hope to see you at SAAC 50!

The tach in my 67 in Sweden stopped working but the car still worked fine.
Somebody has told me many years ago that the tach had an override connection
not to affect the car running if tach gave up.
I found me another 67 tach. Used electronic ignition without any issues.
While you have your tach repaired just connect the two wires together and you can use
the car without the tack.

Don't do the three wire tach if you are concern how it will look under the hood.I haven't heard of this electronic internal conversion so I can't comment.Don't get sketish over this tach fail issue because it rarely happens and besides the vast majority of long time 67 Shelby owners aren't worried ether.  Typically a fail does not shut the car down if it does. If it does you unplug the tach and plug the two connectors together to get things going.
