1966 Le Mans Committee post race review 396 Al engine ??

the last paragraph of the meeting minutes is mentioned "1968 396 aluminum engine"
I've never heard any mention of this before.
There was the 427 calliope 3 valve engine, but this does not sound like it's in any way associated.
 
any others familiar with this?

If you remember, there was an all aluminum 390 in a Cobra and a .030 over 390 comes out to 396🤔

Strange in that the 390 Aluminum engine was a 1964 development that seemed to get side lined .  By 1968 I would think that it would be old tech. What is the validity of the 396 FE being a de stroked 427?

Hi to all G.T.40 Fans,
After thinking this over, could it be to fit into a class of engine size and keeping the weight down. Seems the rules did change after the 67 Le Mans event --no more 7.0 liters
so the Ford private team cars went back to 5.0 liter engines....an all aluminium 396 is
6.5 liters and would benefit from the years of 427 testing so at least present the idea to the bean counters as a possibility. This must be a very rare engine and cost quite a bit to make-even in 1964.
