Marcus, I stumbled on this old post and thought id chime in .
 Great info as usual on all your topics, but the toploader section may need a revision.

You left out the C4DR-7A040-A Toploader tail housing.
This casting originated from 1964-1965 Falcon / Ranchero (front shifter mount location) but also came on all 1964 - 1965 Mustang Toploaders, maybe 1966 too (Mustang used the rear shifter mount location).  David kee has this wrong on his site, he has it listed for 64-73. More accurate would be 1964 - 1965 Mustang.

C4ZR-7A040-A Tail.  I dont think it was used in 1964 or 1965, posibly started sometime in 1966? or beginning in 1967.  David Kee has this wrong , not 64-73, more accurate might be 67-73? , or possibly 67-70?.

VIN stamping on toploader case.
From 1965-1967 the complete VIN was "usually" stamped on the bottom flat machined area of the main case facing straight down towards the road, I have seen a few cases where it was stamped on the bottom of the case near drain plug not facing down, but more on the curve of the case. Only important vehicles got their transmission stamped, 1965-1966  K code mustangs and 67 Shelbys, I dont think a basic run of the mill mustang from 1965-1967 got any VIN stamping on the toploader. I believe starting in 1968 they moved the stamping location on top of the driver side ear, it was a partial VIN consisting of 1 digit for year year, 1 digit for plant, and 6 digit VIN , usually 8 digits ,

If anyone thinks otherwise on the above information, please correct me. I am not perfect , I am human

Marcus, Thanks for all of your detailed info in your "Mustang Factoids"  section. That information will be used for generations to come!

If anyone has a copy of the toploader PDF can they post it.

There are early '67 GT350's with HEH BX units... an example. They were also in some '66 GT350's

Also a shot of the full Ford VIN on the pad facing the ground on the bottom surface...

Here is a link to David Kee list of top loader transmissions used (the HEH BX was continued into the '67 run);

There are documents that report that all 4 speeds prior to the Federal requirement in 68, received a VIN. At the same time its not certain or documented, that I know of, that all plants followed that. I do have examples of 67's with C and S codes with VIN's from cars built at San Jose.

As far as tailshaft housing, its late, but looked through the first in my directory, happened to be for a HEH-T and it shows examples with the C4ZR-7A040-A version (late 65 production Dearborn K code example).  Found another on a HEH-BT.

May look at the list of other 64-6 transmission pictures tomorrow there are over a couple of thousand pictures to look through.
