I had no idea state taxes in CA were that high- a bit crazy getting a fee up near 30% and then my state would still require I pay another 6+% to them and shipping. I wouldn't mind getting a 68 project but I'm realizing this isn't the one for me. This may be good for someone in CA with a CA dealer license to get it out the door cheaper.
Total rates can increase up to 10.25% or higher in some cities and counties due to local voter-approved district taxes.
It doesn't appear that the seller has a car dealer license. If they did and the car was shipped out of state without its tires touching a public road they sales tax would not have to be paid. If I bought a car in your state and paid the 6% tax CA would still collect another 4% when it was registered here. Anyone with a sellers permit in CA should be able to delay the collection of the tax. BTW CA even wants you to get a permit and collect tax at swap meets, unless making only occasional sales (twice or less per year).

I'd like a 68 project. I tried and bailed at 52- the fees, CA taxes and logistics of pick-up deterred me.  :(

Your going to be pressed to fond a project under 70k, especially a big block

Agree. Not that it's going to make a substantial difference in my search but I'm more of an anomaly. I prefer a GT350 and am ok with a non-original motor and something I do over time to enjoy the journey. I'd like to be a concours or survivor guy and appreciate that just not in my reality.

2008 GT-C

It was sold at 1/3 the price because it was not listed as a "Holy Grail" car.

Because red is less popular than ugliest color ever produced by Ford - Lime Green.
Just kidding the ugliest color was the gold they 2005 aniv Tbird. It was so bad they sprayed less than 100 of them before saner heads prevailed.
