Jump start a 2013 Boss 302LS?

Massive argument with my 90 year old father this evening about jump starting a modern car with modern electronics.  He insists that it's fine (provided the polarity red to red black to black is correct).  I am of the opinion that it is a really bad idea and that it would be better to put on a battery charger.  (The car is not dead but, surprise surprise, after a long but fun drive from Chicago, then negotiating through Canada Customs and flying through the red tape and barbed wire, the Boss is at his house in Toronto but he isn't driving it, surprise surprise).  In fact he hasn't driven it at all.    Hence the discussion about dead batteries which will be in this car's future given the present trajectory under his tutelage.  Any thoughts?  I am willing to be schooled.

I jumped my 2008 GT no issues...
What does the owners manual say?   I'd check that first.

I have my 3 "not daily drivers" all on Battery Tenders (even the F250 Diesel, the tender keeps both batteries charged).   I just drove both old Mustangs after they sat, on tenders, for 2 months.   So took some cranking and they fired up (batteries were hot after being just on tenders).  So, consider a tender on the battery as it sits.

Jump starting is fine. I do it to new BMW's all the time. Every time you kill the battery you damage it, so even if you charge it back up it is not as good as before. Charge it and put it on a tender. If it is an old battery replace it.

Thank you gentlemen. I will convey the message. Hopefully he puts it in a tender....

Funny story with my LS. I was one short battery tender in the garage last fall, so I decided to install the little green knob terminal on the battery so there would be no current drawing from the battery while she rested. It sat all winter in the climate controlled environment and I was super happy that it in spring it fired right up with the spin of a dial. Shortly after that I received my letter from the DMV that the car needed an emissions check. I figured no big deal i'll run it over and get it done. What the hell, it's a 2013 what could go wrong. WELL..... apparently when you disconnect the battery it looses all the emissions information, so I failed! Took me about 80 miles to get the damn thing to register enough data in the electronics to pass the inspection. Not sure what your current emissions stats is, but if the battery goes dead from sitting, so does your emissions data!

Best practice is + to +, then - of charging battery to a good ground on dead vehicle.  Allow to run for 5-10 minutes to allow for drained battery to recover sufficient charge, then shut off both vehicles, disconnect cables.  Re-start charged vehicle.

Terlingua....that is true on every newish car now.  Even doing a battery change out and the "learned" stuff is gone.  I think I read you need to drive at least 50 miles or more to get the computer to have emission information.  Cadillac, Civic, Eco-Boost truck....all of them.

All good and valuable information to know.  I've committed it all to memory.  Thank you, gentlemen!
