mgreene,

Good eye, I say you are correct! The other photos of the car (5S003) in this article are the well known and widely published ones that we have all seen, except for a rare 2 page right side profile shot that I would have to consult my files to confirm if I have ever seen before...

I found this article at a vendor booth at MCACN last weekend. It's not in the best of shape, but I knew I had to have it because it is the first time I have ever seen it anywhere.

It is another example of the bugaboo I have with many 60's car magazines, where they don't have the issue info at the bottom of the pages. I have had success before here on the Forum in situations like this where someone chimes in with the issue / date.

Here's hoping again with this one!

(sorry for this large image, I'm just doing a quick & dirty on the 'ol iPad...)

But can someone tell me which issue of Customs Illustrated this article is in? This is page 61.

Thanks,
Kieth

"Blackcar" - THANKS for your great explanation of how to decipher a clock code, it's more than I have ever learned before!

But now I'm confused about the dot between the 3 and the 5 - what does that one mean??

Thanks,
Kieth

The two piece seal that are being sold today NEED to be fitted to your block. The las one I installed was.045" proud on both ends. You place them in the block, make sure that they are fully seated and then make sure that there is only .005" to 0.010" after fitting left proud of the block, then trim the cap end to similar dimensions. Then keeping the cap piece with the cap and the block piece with the block offset each end about 5/16" and place it all together. I clean the ends of each seal and carefully put a small - very small thin coating of LocTite 574 on each seal end and put it together. Use a one piece pan gasket and your done.

John,

Can you please share the specifics (brand, part number, sealant, tips, tricks, etc.) of the one piece pan gasket of which you speak?

Thank You!

Steve,

So you can feel my pain about letting the book slip thru your hands too, 'eh? Ouch!

Yes, I'll be at MCACN again this year, but I'll be furtively darting around thru the dark areas, so as to avoid the dirt demon . . . .  :o

Szabo,

MANY Thanks - Well Done!! I appreciate it very much.

Sadly though, this revelation means that I will not be able to acquire this article and stitch those pages together! Because of the almost-'unacquirable' publication in which they are contained!

Alas, one of the most regretful incidents of my Shelby life is having a brand new copy of that book in my hands at a Road America / Elkhart Lake, Wis. Shelby event, and passing on it because of its then princely price tag of $125. I just couldn't make myself pull the trigger at that time...

I have been reliving that forehead slap moment every day I have looked back on it since then.

Thanks again for your help!
This now becomes another chapter in that infamous moment from my past.

Does anyone know the source of this article? I grabbed these separate images somewhere but would like to get the magazine(?) and then scan & stitch them together.

Thanks!

Possibly - I was taking it literally I guess! Always trying to be a stickler for historical accuracy of my records...

Hopefully Colin chimes in and addresses your suggestion.

Pretty clever.
If so, it got me!!

CSX 2000 Series / Calling KRANKY

KRANKY,

I cannot find a listing of Ken Miles in a #60 Cobra in your 1963-65 Race Records, unless I missed it. And there's no description of this cover photo, or credit for it, inside the book.

Can you help me with which chassis # this is, and at which event this photo was taken at?
(the hood vents made me think CSX2002, but I never found anything with it as #60)

Thanks,
Kieth

To my knowledge, no.
How that little nugget of history was not retained by anyone is beyond comprehension to me...
