[hi guys . . . 6S929 came to me with a fuel cell, and i'd like to replace it with a stock tank . . . thoughts about whether to go with the original 16 gallon or the '67 and later 22 gallon? i like the idea of more fuel capacity, but then there's added weight and the bulge in the trunk.please advise . . . .alan in LA]

[hi guys . . . apologies in advance for the length of this post . . . almost exactly 3 years ago, i got a lead about a guy in Washington who had a set of original, unrestored Ray Brown seat belts for 6S929 . . . when i contacted him, he also told me about an over-the-counter '66-only wood steering wheel that he pried out of the same wreck from which he got the seat belts. he was willing to sell me the wheel, but he wasn't optimistic that it could be restored. so, like the OP, i started the search for someone who could restore the wheel. i'm not exactly sure how i found him, but there was a guy in the same Washington neighborhood, dan thayer, who had been making and selling repo steering wheels. i had the guy with the steering wheel go to dan's house and show him the wheel. dan said he could restore it, but it might take some time. i never actually held the damaged wheel in my hands, but i saw pictures, and it was a mess. in trying to pry the wheel off the column, the spokes were bent, and the hub had pieces missing where it was pried off with a screwdriver. here's a link to the restored wheel, and it is a work of art -- at least 10 times nicer than i had any reason to expect.https://drive.google.com/folde rview?id=0B9zMsZEpD5tmV2N1N0Nw QVByWFU i have no idea whether dan is still doing this. if memory serves, he was building a race car. his email is rightturnfab@gmail.com, and his number is 360-909-3520 in Vancouver, Washington. oh yeah, considering the amount of work he did, i thought he was very reasonable on the price.regards to all,alanCSX25636S929]

[speaking of Bugeye Sprites . . . I have two Bugeyes, been driving them since high school, and they are the most fun you can have with your pants on . . . SWMBO insists that I don't need two, so I'm going to put the Blue one up for sale in the spring . . . 1275, 1-3/4 SU, headers, 5 speed, new clutch, disc brakes, aluminum radiator, alternator, MSD, gorgeous interior, etc. etc . . . $27,500 firm. No top or side curtains, but who's driving these in the rain? My Sprite was just featured in a segment on Jay Leno's garage, where he's trying to talk actor Brad Garrett (6'9") into buying a Bugeye.
