The seller provided yet another master-class on how to alienate potential buyers that have legitimate questions by accusing them of sandbagging his auction. After three massive fails in 18 months he has likely tainted 5s208 for future transactions.

It is pretty simple.
The seller either has no idea what he has or he is trying to hide the actual truth...
I bet most of the sheet metal has been replaced as most of those cars in PERU were road extremely hard and I know this because I used to own one.
The seller will not give any real information except call people names and we all know the entire drivetrain is not original and of course it was "supposedly" restored as a R model.
I might have  actually bid on it IF HE PROVIDED ANY WORTHWHILE INFORMATION

Never Restored and only a coat of paint 50 years ago...

All original drivetrain, never removed from the car.

Original Sheet Metal etc.

I believe you are mistaken....

I just double checked and all the videos on the BAT listing are of this car and its an Automatic.

I had to check to make sure as I have owned (9) 65s and (7) 66s.

Not really sure you can attribute that to the seller

Since those are ALL Automatic Hertz cars....

They really do not compare in Value to a 4 Speed, Non-Hertz Car...

The seller might have done better "if" he had someone run the auction for him or... Added more photos or documented the "claims".

Based upon the information we all had... He should have taken the $175,500 (including the BAT Fee)

That is a great price for the seller, you wonder what he thinks it is worth.

Lack of seller involvement... Lack of Pertinent Information... Hence the result...

It looked to me like this thread did start out about the out-of- the-ordinary price paid for such a car that was not 100% correct and quickly spiraled into more. The seller did mention a few times in his comments that he reached out to an "expert" or two for advise and even offered to pay for their time to assess the car, but received no reply back to assist him.  Who exactly did he reach out to?  It sounds like the seller tried to do his due diligence before selling the car. 

There would definitely be an issue for a buyer and seller of any car if the car has been re-bodied or fraudulently and knowingly mis-represented (I am not making any accusations about this particular GT500KR because I have never examined it in person or had any interest in it).  As Mr. Lea stated, "Re-bodies are real they exist there are even people here on the forum that have done them and should be exposed for what they are".  I agree that anyone who is guilty of this and knowingly represents a car for what it really isn't should be publicly exposed along with the car itself so the next seller/buyer are aware of what the car really is.  We do not need people like this in the hobby.
It certainly is unfortunate that the integrity of some of these cars is lost by "armchair critics".  When something on a car is in question, it may deserve an in person inspection by an expert to answer and/or disqualify any assumptions made about the car.
