All the worlds OEMs are trying to monitize the data they have access to.  Patents are filed to make it more difficult for competitors (and for profit should a competitor want to use a similar idea).  Whether or not these patents result in an actual system being used is a different story.  And there is push back on what data is collected, how it is collected and who has access to it.  The primary reason GM is moving away from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is so they don't have to share data with Google.  We will see.

Something to consider regarding recalls: many more recalls are done today than in the past.  IMO that is because the legal consequences of not addressing a problem are greater than they used to be.  If a manufacturer has information that would result in a recall, and doesn't do anything about it, that is a bigger problem for them than issuing a recall for which repair parts aren't currently available.  One of the largest recalls has been the Takata air bag inflator module recall.  Approx. 67 million vehicles, going back at least 20 years, from 19 manufacturers.  Most of the vehicles will most likely never have a problem.  But you can't tell for sure, so they need to be repaired.  It will take a long time until the issue is resolved.

Yes.  I think that's the point. It's easier (to not miss a shift) to pull towards you from 1st to second and then just push forward from 2nd to 3rd.  You can feel the spring pushing against the shifter lever when shifting into 1st from neutral, even more when engaging reverse.  I always thought the point to the Hurst (or any performance shifter) was to facilitate the 2/3 upshift as that is the easiest to "miss".  When downshifting from 4th to 3rd, it can also help to prevent engaging 1st (though you certainly still can.... lol)

I have a 70 Mach with a "factory" Hurst shifter and low orginal miles.  The shifter sits in neutral between 3rd and 4th.  To get first you need a bit of pressure towards the left on the shifter.  If you move the shifter forward from neutral, with no pressure either way on the side, it will go in to 3rd.

Realizing that 53 year old guages were not that accurate to begin with and may even be less now, I have a question:

I have a 70 351C with what appears to be the original water temp sender, a Flow-Kooler Robert Shaw 180 high flow thermostat (with brass restrictor "ring"), a replacement (NPD) guage cluster harness, and am drawing power for a Holley with electric choke from the temp guage power wire.

Runs great, no signs of overheating regardless of ambient temp., etc.  I generally drive it for 30-60 mins at a time max.

My temp guage needle usually sits on the "C", or slightly past., which I think is a bit low.  I let the car idle for about 25-30 mins once and the needle moved almost to half way between "C" and "H"

I think the guage is reading low and am concerned it may be because of the power draw.  Do I have a problem, or am I chasing something that isn't there?  Thanks!
