A Call to Action

This is an open invite to anyone in our club who would like to participate in an upcoming event. On Tuesday, October 7, Jerry Heasley of internet and automobile book fame will be filming his latest video for his Barn Finds series in Raleigh, North Carolina. Brian Styles, the creator/director/savant of the 1967 Shelby Research Group will be uncovering a car previously lost to the world.  One that has not seen the light of day since 1987.  It's a 1967 GT 500, no. 0244, and it's been sitting in a garage, somewhat in pieces, in Raleigh, North Carolina .   Brian will be using this as a teaching moment for Jerry's audience about what to look for when finding, inspecting and validating long lost Shelbys.

Ideally, we would like between six and eight classic Shelby's there to show support.   It should be a lot of fun to participate in the event, and Brian has offered to give everyone who participates a 1967 Shelby Research Group mouse pad, a much sought after item that makes the perfect holiday gift for that someone special in your life who loves Shelbys.  If you are interested and would like to be there, please reach out to me and RSVP. I will give you all the details and we can go from there.

You missed my point . If any squeezes out it is easier to wipe excess off with the alcohol while it has not set up rather then waiting until it is hard to trim.

Actually that's what I did  Bob.  The excess wiped of easily with isopropyl alcohol while it was still wet.  Thanks again to everyone.

Thanks to all of you who helped me out.  JD, I used the 3M tape for the side badges, but used the Silicone technique for the gas cap, as you suggested.  It's far from a show car, just a nice driver, so this is perfect.  Also thanks to Bob Gaines for selling me the badge at a very fair price.

You are definitely in good hands with either of those gentlemen.

When can we have SC host an event. Seems like every one of these are 2-4 hours away from us in SC.
Just my $.02

Thanks,

Absolutely Joel!  You should contact the South Carolina Representative.  His name is Michael Chludzinski. He lives in Hilton Head Island, SC. He's a long time SAAC member and formally from New York.  His email is : shelby6t5@aol.com

A few of the members were talking about possibly having an event in Charleston, at the Yorktown.  I would love to see that happen and would pack up 'Scarlett' for the long ride right away.

Quote from: daltondavid on August 15, 2025, 06:54:07 PMInteresting cars. however this is just a promo for the Shelby Research group. an organization that tried to pass off a car owned by Dennis Collins with no Vin stampings as a 67 Paxton GT350. and if they would "Document" that as something, it tells you all you need to know about their integrity.

I don't think it's very fair to judge the work of an entire organization by the lone example you cited.  I'm sure you wouldn't want the body of your life's work judged by one action you did or didn't do.  Are you even a member of the Shelby Research Group (1967)?  Something tells me probably not.

I love being a part of SAAC, it's one of things that truly makes me happy in this world.  But I also appreciate the knowledge and camaraderie exemplified over at the Shelby Research Group.  Your comments reek of an air of jealousy at best, which I guess can't be blamed considering the unique history and caliber of each car cited.

As for their integrity, I am assuming you are referring to Brian Styles who founded and runs the  organization.  I can honestly say he has proven to me and others his vast knowledge, dedication and overall love of the hobby and that's good enough for me.

I enjoy visiting this forum, the senior members are a treasure trove of information, invaluable for a classic Shelby owner.   But it seems there always has to be one (or more) persons eager to sully another man's reputation in order to make themselves feel more important.  It is truly one of the major flaws in this hobby and it never seems to go away.  Sad.

Thanks JD.  Bob sent me a really nice gas cap emblem and I can't wait to install it.

It's funny you said to " let it sit flat for a day", which reminded me how much easier the flat gas caps were to do this with.

What do you all use to glue the fender emblems and gas cap emblem on?  Obviously the NOS adhesive is long dead.

Thanks

Of course, you could have just gotten a signed front plate. I hear it's going to be mandatory at SAAC 51 that every Shelby has to have at least one signature from the old man on it in order to attend the show.

Does anyone have an NOS 1967 Shelby GT350 Gas Cap Emblem?

I purchased one off of eBay from a known seller and it came destroyed.

Can anyone take pity and sell me one?

I just sent a PM.

Hey Phil,

Did everything work out for you?

So there is a strong possibility that the car is a fake.  Can we say the same about Sydney's 'endowments'?   Would any of our SAAC judges like to volunteer to inspect them and give a ruling?
