I hope everyone is doing well, and that the holiday season hasn't stressed you out to the max, lol.  It's never to early to start to think about next years Shelby events in the Carolinas.  Since the Springtime event at the airport seems to be such a hit, we were thinking of continuing the streak, but we are open to any new suggestions to improve it overall.  Also, how about a fall event?  Thoughts?

What I can say that hasn't been said the previous eleven other times?  How about every person who registers their car at the upcoming event will receive a genuine gold Rolex watch.  (Wait, I might have that wrong, I think they say 'Rolix' on the face, oh well).

But seriously folks, this Car Show/Rib Fest has grown quite nicely over the years, with the average attendance being about 80 cars, yet it isn't a circus like your local GoodGuy's event is.   It happens concurrently with the town of Pittsboro's annual street fair, so if you get bored at the show, you still have lots more to see.

This event is sponsored by Columbus Lodge no. 102, the Masonic Lodge of Pittsboro,   You know the Masons,  the same guys who are running the world, except we obviously aren't doing a very good job of it.   But seriously, I donate the awards and make sure that there are numerous opportunities for people to snag something nice to go home with.  You won't find one car wining multiple categories here, I mean what's up with that anyway?  If folks are going to put the effort into prepping their rides and coming all that way, they certainly deserve something better than a two dollar piece of plastic that looks like it came out of a Cracker Jacks Box (Does anybody still remember that sugary feast?)

I have an automotive artisan off of Etsy fabricate a handmade 'Best of Show' award utilizing an engine piston and other car parts.  It is truly one of a kind.  The other awards are hefty resin based spark plugs, pistons and gasoline pumps, and I also do something very unique for the 'Top 20' winners.  Another fellow off Etsy makes beautiful bottle openers out of used spark plus, which we mount to wooden bases, that way they might actually find a use for it besides just collecting dust on the shelf.

This is all probably more information than you wanted to know, but please tell everyone you can in the Carolina area to please come out on Saturday, October 28th for a good cause.  I'll be the one in the Shelby sweatshirt.

So for the record, here are the details:

Columbus Lodge No 102, the Masonic Lodge of Pittsboro, will be holding it's 12th annual Columbus Lodge Day, Car Show and Rib Fest on Saturday, October 28th, 2023.  (The rain date is Saturday, November 4th, 2023.).  All makes and models are welcome, and all registered cars are eligible for very unique trophies.

The judged categories include: Best of Show, Master's Award (2nd Place), Chairman's Award (3rd Place), Best Ford, Best GM, Best Mopar, Best Chevrolet, Best Corvette, Best Mustang, Best Camaro, Best Truck, Best Convertible, Best Paint, Best Survivor, Best Interior, Best Engine Bay, Best 4-Door, Best Themed Vehicle, Best Foreign Car,  Best Non-Traditional, Best American Graffiti, Best Masonic Owned, Best Unique, along with top 20 show participants.

Registration is from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, judging from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm with awards announced at 2:00 pm. The donation to show your car is $25. Money raised helps support the North Carolina Masonic Charities.

The delicious Rib Lunch costs $15, and is considered to be the best BBQ in Chatham County, come see for yourself!

*******Important News: We have had a last minute venue change.  The event is being held exactly one mile north at the Lowes Home Improvement Center at the corner of Hwy 64 and Route 15/501.  Much more room and a much nicer location! ******************

I have a freshly rebuilt (zero hours) 289 HIPO engine for sale.   It was completely overhauled by John Callis, who has an excellent reputation as a top Ford classic engine builder.  He took over a hundred photos during the rebuild process.  It has a casting date of 6K17, and the heads are dated 6K27.  It is stamped 7F07K2752, but it's extremely faint and can only be seen when the paint is stripped off the engine block.

It has a brand new Holman Moody 289 HIPO factory spec Camshaft and Lifters installed.  The cylinders are .020 over.

It has a restored HIPO harmonic balancer C50E dated L6.    It also comes with a restored set of exhaust manifolds C30E-9431-B and C4ZE-9430-A respectively.  I have a nice set of early service replacement 'fanged' Cobra Valve Covers that will be included.  The Cobra intake is a brand new Blue Thunder replacement, and the carburetor is not included.

More information and pictures are available.

Well, it's that time again.  The air is starting to get cooler, the leaves are starting to change to their beautiful hue of amber and coral and the Masonic Lodge of Pittsboro, North Carolina will be hosting it's 11th annual Car Show and Fib Fest.  This year it takes place concurrently with the Pittsboro Street fair, so you'll have two fine events to peruse.  Without a doubt, this show garners the participation of some of the most unique cars in the Triad as we have multiple award categories and the trophies trump what you would find in most local events.  If you are anywhere close by, try and stop by and say hello.

Brian

So you've saved up for years to purchase your dream Shelby, but one thing is missing when you cruise to your local Cars and Coffee.  Carroll knew what that was. Not only do you need to look cool driving your car, you've gotta smell good too!  That's why 'Ol Shel came out with his iconic "Real Man's Deodorant".  It's said that the designers of this 'possibly pheromone laced concoction' based the unique fragrance on the smell of Ken Miles' racing jumpsuit after winning the 24 hours of LeMans in 1966.  This of course can't be proven, but does it really matter?

All kidding aside, here we have a nice example of Shelby's Pit Stop deodorant. the condition is very good considering that most of these were used up and thrown into landfills back in the day.  The label has some light water damage, and the cap has a crack in the top.  It still retains over half of it's original contents, which will still spray on demand.  It's a great addition to anyone's Shelby collection.  Please see additional pics for condition.

Appeals / 1967 wood steering wheel resto
July 20, 2022, 12:33:58 PM
I was using Jeff Stephens to restore my steering wheels, but he doesn't seem to be answering his email.  Does anyone have an alternate person to this this kind of work?

Thanks so much!

Somebody thought they had a AC Ace and read Carroll Shelby's autobiography too many times.  Lot's of question here, is that a HIPO?  Does it come with a signed glove box?

Well, I managed to top that one.  How about $11,000 for a signed glove box for your '67?  Sounds like a bargain to me:

I really love when he says, "If you have a Shelby and want to make it correct this is for you."  That statement couldn't farther from the truth.  And the $7,000 asking price, why not considering the crazy prices we keep seeing on everything lately.  For the record, I have ten of these and I'll sell each for only $5,000 a piece if anyone is interested... ::)

Mustang Vintage 1968 mustang Shelby 500 Shifter Knob original used antique rare
1968 mustang Shelby gt 500 shifter knob

Original used 1968  mustang  Shelby   500 shifter knob. This item is in restored and un cleaned original condition. It's worn in just the right places in the wood finish, so it's visually correct in the driver's position. Good slightly worn is what it looks like and way better in person. Beautiful wood grain is amazing. This item has been in my collection for over 40 years so I know it's correct and not a repo. If you have a Shelby and want to make it correct this is for you. thanks for looking.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Car no. 666?
May 22, 2022, 06:32:47 PM
My brother was out in Massachusetts on Saturday and came across this car at a local car show.  They're not the greatest quality pics, but I think they show car no. 666.  Anyone know this car?  Would the owner's name happen to be Lucifer Morningstar, or does he only drive a '62 black corvette?

:) :) :) :) :) :) SAAC Carolinas Spring Event  :) :) :) :) :) :)

New Spring 2022 SAAC Carolinas Event!!!

Gas prices are up, masks are off and Putin is invading the Ukraine, it must be time for another SAAC Carolinas Spring Event.  You are officially invited to attend the upcoming SAAC Carolinas Spring Event on Saturday, May 21st, 2022, at the Hickory Regional Airport, in Hickory, NC.  Like last year, we will be parking member's cars amongst the vintage military airplanes that reside at the museum, and it makes for amazing photo opportunities.

http://www.hickoryaviationmuseum.org

They have a fabulous museum that is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and we'd like to get as many cars in and parked amongst the planes as early as possible, so plan to be there between 9:00-9:30am.  There are plenty of trailer parking spaces located in the airport parking lot for those who may need them.

As for lunch, there is a short order cafe at the museum, and the food is quite good which I can attest to.  There is plenty of room to sit inside and eat, plus there are three picnic tables outside by the planes and around your cars.  There are also plenty of restrooms inside the terminal including ones that are handicap accessible.

If anyone is thinking of staying overnight, there is a Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn, both located about 15 minutes from the airport on I-40.  From there, you can easily drive to the event in your car.

I plan to bring my growing collection of Shelby/Ford memorabilia, and we might even have another round of our famous SAAC Carolinas Trivia, so bring your thinking caps.   Please RSVP if possible.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Thanks,

Brian                                              Denny

I'm posting this for Bill B.  :)

Here are two scans from the 1977 November/December Shelby-Cobra Owners Association of the Southeast Newsletter.  It has some coverage of the 3rd Annual SAAC North Carolina Fall Meet, held in October 1977 at the Pine Mount Lakes Resort, which is just southwest of Hickory. Bill says there were over 80 cars with 125+ people who attended.   His friend was the Editor of that newsletter for years and recently found several copies from various years and gave them to him.  Back in the 1970s/80s, he and his wife commuted in Atlanta with their daily drivers, a '69 GT350 and '66 Sunbeam Tiger MK1.  Ah, the good 'ol days!

Bill Baker has graciously offered to host another spring outing at the Hickory Regional Airport in Hickory, NC on Saturday, May 21st, 2022.  Last year's event was an unmitigated success, parking classic Shelbys and Fords under one of a kind retired military aircraft.  They open at 10am, so he'd like to have everyone parked by 9:30 and stay until 2pm, understanding that people may have other commitments and need to leave.  Anyone who needs to leave early, can be parked by the fence entrance for easy departure.

Can I get a few opinions as to whether or not this is what everyone might like?  ;D

The Shelby American Automobile Club of the Carolinas has been officially invited to participate in the 2022 Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance & Motoring Festival Car Club Showcase (CCS).  It is one of the key events for the festival occurring on Saturday, November 5th, 2022.

If any members are interested the directors of the event ask that on or before March 15th you would:

1.         Communicate to them your interest and intent to participate in the 2022 Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance & Motoring Festival's Car Club Showcase to be held on Saturday, November 5th, 2022.

2.         Confirm the full correct name for your organization and the person (and their contact info.....email & telephone) with whom you wish us to communicate further.

Please send this response to: Meredith Kronz Exhibitors@HHIConcours.com

This year's Motoring Festival will be back at the beautiful Port Royal Golf Club in the heart of Hilton Head Island. You will enjoy the venue and the events they have planned for the 20th Annual Motoring Festival. Given the success of past events, they expect a full field this year and extra car spaces will likely be limited.

The website, www.hhiconcours.com, provides full details of the Car Club Showcase and the numerous other events, including their flagship Concours d'Elegance, occurring during the multi-day Motoring Festival on Hilton Head Island. The Car Club Showcase registration fee remains at $40 per vehicle and includes two-day admission tickets (Saturday & Sunday, November 5th & November 6th) for two people per registered vehicle – a greater than $200 value. As in the past year they are requiring a picture of each vehicle applying for entry, and registration will not be complete without the receipt of a fully completed Application Form and photograph. Their registration period will be open through July 1 after which registration will be closed and unfilled slots will be forfeited.

The Car Club Showcase Team is looking forward to seeing you and your Club at this year's Car Club Showcase. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Dyrenfurth (contact information below) or Meredith Kronz, the Exhibitor Concierge, at the Motoring Festival Office: (843) 785-7469 ext. 4.

Contact me, Brian Glover if your are interested in attending the event as a club.  Thanks.

Carolina Region SAAC / Advice needed for paint repair
February 02, 2022, 09:38:42 AM
Can anyone suggest an auto body Paint shop for my friend Ray?  He has a beautifully restored 1956 Continental that sustained minor damage while being enclosed shipped.  Ugh.  He needs a recommendation for a high end painter to match his black exterior.

I tried Hunter, but he is super busy.  That's what happens when you get to be really good.

The car is in the Chapel Hill, NC area like me.

I'm selling these for a friend.  Here we have two excellent condition and much sought after Vintage Shelby Posters from the 1969 'Michigan' Shelby Parts and Accessories Catalog.

First up is what most collectors refer to as the 'LoneStar Poster'. It measures 22.5 inches wide by 34 inches long, and is in very nice condition having spent the last 50 years stored rolled up in a closet. It was featured as the iconic cover of the 1969 'Michigan Catalog'.  No, it wasn't Ann Margaret in the screamin' '60s dress, though many people think she was a former 'Miss Sweden'.   I'm sure only Carroll himself knew.  These are getting harder and harder to find these days, don't miss this opportunity!  Some wrinkles on the edges, please see pics for condition.

https://imageshack.com/a/Z3qw7/1

$1100

Next we have another great condition original vintage poster featured in the 1969 Parts and Accessories Catalog.  It's the 1969 Factory Shelby GT350/GT500 poster.  It measures 24 inches wide by 18 inches high, and is an original piece of artwork by the beloved automotive artist George Bartell.  A must have for any '69 Shelby owner!

https://imageshack.com/a/Kzqw7/1

$400

I have the name of a great company that will flatten out and restore any poster for a reasonable price.  Both of these posters can be found on eBay for far more money, don't miss this opportunity!

Can I ask, who makes the aluminum bodies for the Shelby CSX8000 series?  Is it Kirkham, or someone else?

Thanks,
