1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Interesting hood feature
April 26, 2018, 09:52:57 AM
My good friend who is a long time '66 Hertz owner asked me if the space seen below the molded in hood scoop was correct as seen in this picture:

He had seen it on a '67 for sale online.  I honestly had never noticed that feature before and had to check to see if it was on my car when I got home from work. Sure enough, it was.  I just wondered how many '67 owners also never noticed this detail before?

Have you all seen the copper finished Cobra?  It looks like a big water kettle on the stove, but I really like it.  ;D

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Bronze 67 Mustang
April 22, 2018, 11:34:14 AM
I saw this car at a local show on Saturday.  The owner told me he bought it from the original owner and it has 48,000 original miles.  It had one repaint a few years ago.  I thought you all might like to see it since bronze is such a rare color to find out in the wild.

I do think they took some liberties with the shade as the original color isn't as nice as this.  Perhaps JD will post the pic he has of a similar car they did the same sort of thing with.  Still, it was great to see it.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Hood Pin Bracket Question
April 19, 2018, 09:53:47 AM
I have a friend in NJ who is restoring a '67, and he needs the hood pin brackets.  I have two I picked up from Branda over the last 2 years, and wondered how did they bend them to make the passenger's side?  Besides the bend, are they the same, or are the passenger side versions without the top slot?

Quick question:  Twice I have experienced the situation where the car wouldn't turn off when I switched the ignition key to off, and even removed the key!  The first time, I replaced the starter solenoid even though I suspected it was probably the ignition switch.  It didn't happen for a few months.  Last Saturday, it happened again.

Has anyone else ever had this happen to their Ford product?  I have an NOS switch, so I guess it's time to swap it out already.
Easy enough job?

Thanks!

When I purchased no. 26 from my friend JD, he had informed me that he had installed a very nice carpet set about 10 years previous.  In that short period of time though, the sun turned it more of a nice shade of brown than it's original black.  It has no holes, or wear  throughs, it's just faded.  I contemplated replacing it, and probably will do that in the next off season.  I did stumble upon a you tube video detailing how to dye your auto carpet in situ, so I thought I'd give it a shot.  This isn't for the concourse crowd, but perhaps a few of you may find this interesting and will consider giving it a go.

I used Rit Black Dye, mixed 1 to 1 with water.  I liberally dabbed it on with a sponge.  In theory they have numerous colors to chose from, so if you wanted to try this on your 65 Mustang convertible with the red pony interior, you're good to go. The end result seems to be a freshly dyed black carpet, still soft to the touch, unlike what you might get with using carpet spray paint.

Not mine, but I imagine they are pricing this car so high because of the 'dealer installed 427 side oiler.'

Vehicle Description

This GT-500 is 1 of only 5 that were ever created. Backed up with a MARTI report, this Shelby GT-500 has a dealer installed 427 side oiler. This rare Mustang had a complete rotisserie restoration completed on it and is as good as the day it drove off of the showroom floor! All of the stampings down to the Kelsey Hayes rims and steering wheel are correct for the era and is truly amazing to see a piece of automotive history preserved as well as this one has. The 427 side oiler has always been one of the most sought after of Ford engines for their high performance and racing pedigree. The Shelby GT-500 was the most powerful Mustang created in 1967 and was created in very limited quantities overall. This engine configuration from the factory was expected to make over 450 horsepower and the numbers were typically under rated. The look of the late sixties Mustang fastbacks are timeless. The swooping lines and sharp edges are unforgettable. This iconic American muscle car is not just a pretty face though. The car runs and drives very well and feels like endless amounts of power. As you drive along it is hard not to get caught up in the nostalgia while gripping the wood grain steering wheel and are looking into the faces of each Shelby gauge then looking to your right and seeing Carroll Shelby’s signature on the glove box is the icing on the cake! This piece of history is well documented and in superb shape. No matter if you plan on using at just a show piece or to drive occasionally you are surely to be the only one in your group with the same car. This vehicle is located in our Denver showroom. You can view this 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-500 in greater detail including HD pictures and an HD video of it running and driving at . Is the 65-66 windshield and rear glass rubber interchangeable with 67-68's also?

#310
Ok, time for an idiot question, but I can see myself screwing this up pretty quickly.  I am just about to replace my fender badges with some nice NOS ones I got from Bob G, and I honestly am stuck trying to figure out the orientation.  Both pins are angled, but one is angled more.  Which is up?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Fender badge question
March 21, 2018, 02:59:51 PM
Can anyone suggest how best to attach the fender badge emblems to the chromed plastic frame?  I assume it needs an adhesive, but what's best?

I've been studying the different batteries for the Shelby American products used from 1965-1970, and I came across this article:

http://www.mustangandfords.com/featured-vehicles/mump-1101-ford-1965-shelby-gt350/

It is about car 5R213, and the owner says this about it:

"It even has the original Cobra vented battery caps," he says. "There are probably less than a half-dozen left in the world. It's got the genuine battery sitting in the trunk, an Autolite reverse-post 24C series, with the only original negative battery cable I have ever seen."

Is that correct for this model?  Would it have been green lettered?

Not mine, but I'm sure someone is looking for a pair of these.

Can anyone tell me what number this Cobra is?  It's an early one with a 260.

Location: Cameron, Texas, 76092
Stock #: 50332
Transmission: Manual
Condition: Excellent

Seller's Description: This stunning, black on black original Shelby Cobra CSX20XX is one of the first Cobras built by Shelby American in 1962. It is equipped with the original 260 C. I. V8 engine, the original differential and the original aluminum case T10 Borg Warner four speed transmission. All the other components are either refurbished originals or NOS. Well over $100,000 was invested in the restoration.

This beautifully restored slab side Cobra is 100% correct, right down to the windshield squirter nozzles. During inspection, the only non-correct component we noted was the VIN tag, which was installed so that the car could be registered in Texas. It is a correct VIN tag, but for a later model slab side Cobra (built after CSX2125.)

The current owner of this 1962 Cobra has owned it since the 1970's. The car was a bit dusty the day we took the pictures, but the black paint is stunning. It is an excellent, highly detailed restoration. Sometime during its life, it was painted red, but it was repainted the correct black color during the restoration.

This authentic Shelby Cobra can be purchased for $1,150,000 US. With Cobra values on the rise, this is an excellent investment.
Price: $1,150,000

I just wanted to share this.  Here is an original Magstar rim which was purchased back in 1968.  The seller informed me that his father was the original owner of a 67 GT350, and that he ordered 2 extra rims from the dealer to mount snow tires.  One was lost, but might still be at his fathers house which he will look for.  I thought this was interesting in 2 ways.  First, it shows the color of the raw metal centers on an early version of the rim.  Second, I've never seen an original box before.   Pretty cool.  The seller told me he was going to mount it on the wall, and use the rim to coil his garden hose around.  He certainly would have had the coolest garden feature in his neighborhood. ;)

I found a car part I'm interested on Craig's List, but the seller will only do cash in person.  Is anyone near Pompton Plains, NJ and have the time to go check it out, and possibly purchase it?  I'll send you money to cover the purchase, shipping and your time.

Thanks,

Brian

i just picked up an Autolite battery stand.  I also bought a few NOS batteries, unfortunately non of them are OEM for our cars.  But they still look pretty cool.  Anyone else have any Autolite collectibles they'd like to share?

#319
I've never seen these in black before.  Is it a reissue from a few years later, and not an original Shelby American item from the catalog?

Can anyone suggest the best place to purchase 5 large lettered Goodyear Speedway Tires?  The prices I keep finding are very expensive!  I just wondered who offered the best pricing?
