I was only seven years old when this went down.  I wish I could have attended but my dad was handling a Texaco gas station at the time and a broken marriage so going to a Trans Am race would have been far off of his radar screen at the time.  If only I could go back in time as an adult to see one of these races with all the greats there and the great cars.

Thankfully the advent of the motion picture camera kinda helps, right?

I was old enough to see this race, but didn't go. Would you trade being 21 in 1970 for being 14 years older now?

shelbydoug: "When you watched the race in person, my thought was find a place that was the safest you could find because it was inevitable that there was going to be a major accident and as a spectator you didn't want to be involved in that."

Is this how you felt then? I know at the races I did attend back then, that was the furthest from my mind. Looked for the spot where those kind of events were more likely to happen. You were probably more mature.

A big thanks to Bob Gaines, I was really struggling getting my steering wheel off, tried the knee pressure trick, latest was shoe strings attached to a a puller and many others with no success. Then ran across past post from Bob talking about using an air hammer. Finally came off!  Thanks!  That's what makes the forums so great.
Sorry to hear the shoelaces didn't work for you, but glad to hear you got it off.

Getting ready to go to French Lick, IN.

Wait! The left rear turn signal doesn't work. And the brake lights don't work.

But the right turn signal DOES work.

Decided it must be the turn signal switch. Our friends at NPD have a replacement.

Here we go.

Getting the new wires back down the steering column, now that's the tricky part. No picture taking, just tedious work involving string and knot tying.

Last attempt to go to Indiana, radiator fell into the fan. This time, rear turn signal and brake lights stopped working. Managed to change turn signal switch. Looks like we're ready to go.

Fall Classic time is getting near! Can't hardly wait to see the three red 67's together under one roof.
French Lick here we come.

Is there a reason it is Wednesday-Thursday-Friday and not Thursday-Friday-Sat? Thanks
The way I heard it was, autumn is busy tourist season in French Lick and when they decided to do an event this year no weekends were available. Hoping to plan for next year earlier, so as to get weekend dates.

I took 0036 out to the Autobahn Country Club for the annual Chicago Vintage Mustang Club show. 110 entries plus we had about 4 not-so- slow parade laps.  I had a ride -along: a 12 year old who is likely a future Shelby enthusiast. Great time (10/10/20211)
And no one documented this with photographs?

Does washing the mud off from driving in the rain on dirt roads count?

Got tired of the exhaust leak, put on a new header gasket.

This time remember to tighten down the bolts! :o

Used to do that every spring. Had the perfect 7/16" wrench, but I lost it. So I let it go, until it drove me crazy.

Thanks for posting, but I can't believe you didn't get a picture of my '87 Aerostar on the track.

Sometimes when you here crickets after a question was asked, it speaks volumes. Doesn't have to be exact, just curious?

My first thought is, if you can't pick out vintage cars in the reasonably good quality picture, how important can it be to you. But that's being kind of snarky. Perhaps you have poor eyesight. So to give you a polite answer, about 50 vintage cars. I didn't verify every Cobra, but my guess is more replicas than originals. Two Ford GTs, at least another three in the garages. Probably another 50 vintage cars in the paddock. Hard to keep up with track cars as they come and go. I know I didn't see the '68 engineering car, but was told it was there, but wouldn't start.

I had three days of enjoyment there.
