Replicas and Tribute / Re: Help Identifying a car
August 11, 2020, 03:39:39 PM
Rick, the car is a wrecked Superformance MkIII of approx. 1998 vintage.

Hello!

I could use your collective intelligence and knowledge to determine what this car is.  Attached is a photo of the VIN plate to the vehicle.  Does this mean anything to anyone?  I am completely ignorant when it comes to these cars and really could use some help.

Thank you in advance.

Warmly,
Rick

CSX2125 - This beautiful Shelby 289 Cobra street roadster was restored to original condition in 2019 by Vintage Motorcar Co.

Quote from: kranky on July 17, 2020, 04:40:52 AM... looks to be suspiciously like 2136 not like 2142, which was still white during this time and under John Willments stewardship?

Did you mean 2136, or 2137...?

Here's another webfind B&W photo of the #85 car in Corsica, in case it helps with IDing the car. The coolant hose looks like how it was on 2137 in period photos.

CSX2137 or CSX2142 at the 1963 Tour de Corse Rally, driven by Jo Schlesser/Patrick Vanson.

Kranky's race record and the latest SAAC Registry disagree on which car it is. Based on the material I have, I'm leaning towards it being 2137, but does anyone here know for sure?

My best guess is that it's an LA Exotic or B&B kit. Both companies are related.

Actor Aaron Paul and his Cobra.

And in this article, it is stated that it is an original, not a replicar.  True?  Doesn't look like it.

Anyone know this Cobra?

Thanks to everyone who contributed to another great issue of The Shelby American.

On quickly scanning the issue, I noticed a few items that I wanted to correct/add some precision, namely:

On page 17: Specifically, it was a Superformance MkIII Cobra replica (chassis no. SP02992) that was used in the Clint Eastwood movie, "The Mule."

On page 19: This photo was not taken in Venezuela. It was taken in Bacolod City, Philippines, in Feb 2016 by Brian Evans where the local children have been using the abandoned Cobra replica as a plaything for a long time.

On page 55: This particular 427 Cobra is mid-identified as CSX3208. It is CSX3255, one of The Gumball Rally movie cars, and was owned by Duane Bowers at the time of SAAC-01.

CSX4343 is #29 of the 40th Anniversary cars and it hammered for $115,000 USD at Mecum Harrisburg in July 2019. This is the most recent 40AE continuation Cobra to sell at auction, that I'm aware of.

I am told that Neil Peart's car was CSX 2234, which he acquired from Andre Ahrle via Lynn Park back in 2016.

Yep, the mystery appears to be solved.  :)

I've just come across this photo which was taken May 29, 2018, in SoCal and shows the late Rush drummer Neil Peart with his long-time drum kit setup man Lorne "Gump" Wheaton. As you can see, there's a lovely 289 Cobra in the background.

I know Peart was a rabid motorcycle fan, but am wondering whether he also owned a Cobra? If so, did Peart own an original CSX2000-series Cobra or a high-quality replica? If it's original, which CSX is it? Or does the Cobra belongs to Wheaton?

I've asked Wheaton via Twitter to confirm whose Cobra it is, but haven't gotten a response.

Grateful for any feedback from my fellow Shelby enthusiasts.
