Over time yes i think it can dry out if not sealed. 

You will not a find a finer original looking and fitting system than Scott Fuller's products.  His is essentially bolt in.  Others you will fight with to get them to fit.

i wouldn't be concerned with applying it, however removing it would be a greater concern

For my 68 door,.. is the brightwork around the edges stainless? What is best way to remove the old and then "glue" a replacement glass into the base?  Heat? Thanks

Its stainless.  I believe the stainless is set in place with tape.

Im sorry I dont have one for sale but i recently bought what i thought was a NOS 68 woodgrain bezel.
It came in Fomoco box, stamped with Fomoco symbol and part number but does NOT have chrome around the bright light indicator.
Does this mean it is a repro and  not NOS?

Can't really tell from the picture but looks like there is quite a bit of corrosion around the water jackets on the front of the engine.  I wonder if that's where the seepage is coming from?

There really shouldn't be an argument here.  Point of views are fine. 

If you want a quality part, you are most likely going to pay more for that quality part.  My car recently went through an extensive  restoration.  When it came time for an exhaust system, there were plenty of choices out there, however my restorer made it very clear, buy a cheaper system the cost of the part may be less but the labor involved making it fit will cost you, and at the end of the day, you still don't have a factory correct system.  I chose Scott Fuller's exhaust system.  Was it more than the others, yes, however is a quality system that looks, sounds and fits correctly.  As Tim mentioned above, is it for everyone?  nope,  but for those who want correct fitting and quality there is no other decision to be made.

Corey, No mine doesn't have that spring on it

Corey in the first 2 pictures you posted that i sent youin the beginning of this string of the dashpot on my car, there is not exposed spring like on the autolite.  I suspect that the spring is underneath the rubber boot
