Topics - jk66gt350

I seem to remember a thread years ago on this topic and that the color used was not wimbledon white but was chevy commercial white because it matched the color of the side stripes better.  Can anyone verify that and also post what the paint code(s) are for that color?  I've had some cracking in the paint around my hood scoop for years now and am thinking I might get that fixed and re-paint all of the stripes this year - and want to be sure I've got the color right.  Thanks
Wanted to Buy / hew bolt for latch on 66 rear trap door
October 11, 2023, 10:35:35 AM
I recently realized the bolt on the latch used to open / close the rear trap door on my 66 GT 350 is incorrect.  Any chance anyone has a good used one or knows where I could find a correct replacement?  I guess I could buy a used or correct repro replacement complete latch as a 2nd option.  For reference, following is a link to the replacement latch offered by Virginia Classic Mustang.  It appears the same latch may have been used from 65 - 68.
Thanks, John
I know the 289 hipos had a 6 vane impeller vs the standard 8 vane - supposedly to reduce cavitation at high rpms from some info I've read.  Are there other advantages of using the hipo impeller?  For normal street use with only occasional high rpm blasts, if you are not concerned with being "correct", are you better off running a standard impeller vs hipo for good cooling?  I've done some searches and cannot find any info on when you might be better off with one vs the other.

I recall seeing a few threads on the C8 vs GT 500 in the last year or so.  I spent this morning at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex driving a few cars via Extreme Experience.  Great program and a really fun morning overall.  I did have the opportunity to drive the new GT 500 and the C8 Z51 back to back - 3 laps each.  I have some track experience but I'm no race driver.  That said, I did enjoy thrashing these cars to the best of my ability and to my delight, my passenger instructors / coaches just kept encouraging me to go harder.  Leaving looks, price, interior, practicality etc. aside and focusing only on performance / handing, it was interesting.  The GT 500 was a brute with tremendous punch, awesome exhaust sound and it handled very well.  The vette surprised me somewhat and to me was the better handling car overall, not by a lot, but it felt better balanced and smoother / tighter through the turns.  I assume that apart from the difference in engine placement, the significant difference in weight had a lot to do with my driving impressions.  That said, if I was in the market for one or the other and I factored in everything about both cars, it would likely be a difficult choice.  Not every day is a track day.
Just one car guy's impression.
Cars For Sale / 1931 Ford 5 Window Coupe Hot Rod
May 31, 2022, 08:00:19 PM
I'm posting this for a friend.  Wayne Pitman was the President of Wayne Pitman Ford Inc. in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.  He retired several years ago and is still a strong Ford guy and owns a few interesting classics.  He has decided that he just does not use his hot rod enough to justify keeping it and is looking for a new custodian for it.  This will be a great buy for someone who appreciates these types of cars.  If you or anyone you know might be interested in this very cool vehicle, contact Wayne directly – contact info below.

The rust-free body came from California about 10 years ago.  The owner at that time started to restore the body and build the hot rod but unfortunately passed away before he got very far.  Wayne bought it on February 4, 2017 and the car was completed in May of 2019.  All high quality components and paint.  The car is gorgeous!  All work done in Ontario Canada.  Wayne has over $100,000 Cdn invested in it.  Lots of pictures and documentation available including pictures of the car on a trailer arriving from California with CA plates.
Some of the key information on this show quality vehicle :
-   Original all steel body
-   Boxed custom frame by Paul Horton
-   No chopping
-   High quality black cherry paint
-   Rootlieb hood
-   32 grill shell and grille
-   Custom front and rear pans
-   Bobbed rear fenders
-   Custom pin striping
-   Flip out windshield
-   Black leather bench seating
-   Tilt wheel
-   Classic gauges

-   Custom built 16 (imperial) gallon steel gas tank in rumble seat area
-   Highly dressed 289 built to K code specs except for hydraulic cam and lifters
-   New Walker custom rad / electric fan
-   Powder coated headers
-   C4 transmission
-   Rebuilt Ford 9" rear end
-   Coil over suspension

-   Magnaflow stainless exhaust
-   New Toyo tires and Salt Flats wheels
-   Battery turn off switch
-   Comes with custom car cover

The odometer shows 4,000 miles.  Wayne says he has only put a little over 600 miles on the rod since it was finished.  Again, over $100K Cdn invested.  Wayne is asking $55K Cdn which converts to about $43K US at the current exchange rate.
If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact Wayne directly at 705-445-6338 or at  The car is located in Collingwood, Ontario, about 90 miles north of Toronto and about a three hour drive from Buffalo.
Hopefully many others had a chance to get out with members of their family.  Will try to attach a short video here but not sure if it will exceed the maximum file size allowed or not.
I see many 66's with only the cable to floor brackets that are reproduced like the following:   Some 66 cars (like mine) also have a second half clamp with only one screw located about 15-18" further forward on both cables.  Anyone know whether this was a running production change that only later cars got or ?  I have not found anyone reproducing the half bracket although it looks very similar to common cable fasteners that can be found at Home Depot and other hardware and electrical stores.
I just sold my 70 Cougar vert to a guy in Cincinnati.  He is thinking about hiring someone to take it across the border vs waiting for the border to re-open.  I would drive it to Sarnia or Windsor, then hand it over to the broker who would deliver it to the buyer on the US side.  Anyone know of any brokers they would recommend to provide this service that I could in turn recommend to my buyer?  There are many out there to choose from but both of us would feel better with someone that came with a strong recommendation.  Thanks, John
I plan to replace my spark plugs next month.  My engine is stock other than the lemans cam.  The engine runs great - only 7 or 8,000 miles since a complete rebuild many years ago, but I thought I would do a compression test on it anyway when I changed the plugs.  When I do a google search on 289 hipo compression I see a range of between 130 - 170 lbs.  That sounds like a wide range to me for a good engine.  What range would the knowledgeable engine guys on this forum suggest I should be looking for / expect to see ?
If so, please PM me.  I found a dealer emblem from the dealer my car was bought from - on Springfield Mo Craigslist, but am having trouble contacting the seller.  I believe that might be because my attempts to contact the seller from Canada are not getting through.  Thanks, John
I was planning on sending my hood hinges to Jim Cowles to have them properly restored - and am hoping he gets well and can still do that - but if that does not happen in the near future, what other restorers would people recommend I consider?  Thanks, John
