Ford GT / "FORD Builds A GT RACER"
November 26, 2025, 04:26:23 PM
Does anyone know which magazine / issue this Cole Wilson FORD GT article came from??

I just picked up the article at MCACN, but have my usual frustration with no source info:

Appeals / 289 HP Crankshaft & Counterweight Value?
August 01, 2025, 05:20:09 PM
Wondering if you guys can help me with a ballpark value of a 289 HP crankshaft & counterweight "hatchet."

The crank has the "1M" stamp and is std /std, but a couple of the rod journals have some light scratches and will need a minimal grind.

The main journals are A-OK.

Thanks!

Appeals / SNAKE Emblem Wanted
May 22, 2025, 03:36:36 PM
Looking to purchase a 1969-70 Snake emblem with these numbers (2508-A visible) on the back.

The orange backed Snake photo is from an eBay listing (not current) - the NPD ad shows the entire number.

I have no idea if the NPD Snake had those numbers on the back, but the eBay photo shows that it does exist.

Will purchase outright or have other Snakes to trade, let me know what you have.

1965 GT350/R-Model / 1965 CAR CRAFT Photo
December 26, 2024, 05:55:06 PM
I recently had to repurchase another copy of the May 1965 issue of CAR CRAFT, because I had foolishly used scotch tape decades ago to fasten a continued column from another page onto a previous page of the article. But this time, with my non-hasty, older age eyes approach, I noted an inset photo in the Contents section that I had not previously noticed. Note the small inset photo on page 5 here, about the article on page 64. That photo is not used in the article in this May 1965 issue of CAR CRAFT ("A Two-Fisted Street Machine with Race Track Manners"). Mmmm - I had seen that photo before - but where?? So I went to my "SHELBY ARTICLES - RECENT" folder, and found it in the June 2010 issue of MUSCLE CAR REVIEW, in an article by Rick Kopec titled "The Birth of the G.T. 350." The caption on page 57 states "Testing the G.T.350 for Hot Rod magazine, 1965." But the only 1965 issue of HOT ROD that I know of that tested a G.T. 350 was the August issue, and this "dusty road" photo is not in that issue either. A different "dusty" photo is used in the Aug 1965 HOT ROD article, but it was taken at LAX.

So my question is - have you ever seen this exact "dusty road" photo in a period magazine?

If not, it is a 1965 photo that was not "featured" until 2010!!

November 21, 2023, 10:04:24 PM
(sorry for this large image, I'm just doing a quick & dirty on the 'ol iPad...)

But can someone tell me which issue of Customs Illustrated this article is in? This is page 61.

Thanks,

Does anyone know the source of this article? I grabbed these separate images somewhere but would like to get the magazine(?) and then scan & stitch them together.

Thanks!

CSX 2000 Series / Calling KRANKY
February 14, 2023, 12:29:02 PM
KRANKY,

I cannot find a listing of Ken Miles in a #60 Cobra in your 1963-65 Race Records, unless I missed it. And there's no description of this cover photo, or credit for it, inside the book.

Can you help me with which chassis # this is, and at which event this photo was taken at?
(the hood vents made me think CSX2002, but I never found anything with it as #60)

Thanks,
Kieth

What does the yellow "CD-2" sticker on CSX3159 signify??

I'm looking for help evaluating this air cleaner assembly for both its authenticity and for the value of it in this completely unrestored state.

Thanks for the help!

Can someone confirm if this "Manifolds by Shelby" ad is in the July 1969 issue of Hot Rod, perhaps on page 43?
I've contacted a few sellers on eBay asking same, but no replies.

I'd like to buy a magazine that has this advertisement, if the ad itself is in excellent condition.

Thanks,
Kieth

Can someone ID which 1968 issue of MOTOR TREND this article by Steve Kelly was in:

...said John Christy in his June 1965 editorial about the GT 350.
Now that's real journalism!!

I cropped & composed this image from parts of page 8 and with a photo from the article itself:

Shelby American History / Shelby Trans Am Manifold
April 29, 2022, 06:57:26 PM
A good friend of mine in another city recently surprised me with a gift of his lifelong collection of Shelby materials.
I was literally humbled - what a huge surprise from a great guy!

Among the lot is a bunch of small clippings, many of which I had never seen before, like this one.
Here, an intent-looking Chuck Cantwell shows off the new 289 manifold developed for the Trans-Am racing program.
(there was no source on the backside of this clipping)

What a cool photo:

Does anyone know which issue of Consumer Guide this Shelby article was in?
It's a five page article (pages 76-80) in a magazine format (pages are 8" x 10 3/4").

It only says CONSUMER GUIDE on the bottom, but no month / year.
I'm speculating it may be from the 1980's, but I'd like to know for sure...

Thanks!

"YOU CAN'T EXPLAIN A COBRA TO A BUREAUCRAT OR A CONSUMER ADVOCATE"
Now there's a politically correct headline!!

I'm just now getting around to scanning a new-to-me magazine/article/photo that I found at MCACN in November 2021.
It's the October 1974 issue of SPORTS CAR magazine and it had a great article on Carroll Shelby's Cobras.
It consists of five pages, with 3 photos from the 1963 Bridgehampton FIA Double 500, plus a whole page on author Wade Hoyt's CSX2288.

The photo below is exceptional to me because it's a large 8 3/4" x 12" in size. Better resolution would be nice, but hey, I'll take it!
It nicely shows a photo that I had never seen before, Gurney smoking out of the pits in LeMans Replica CSX2137 on his way to Shelby American's first FIA victory on that September day in New York:

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / October 1966 HERTZ Photo!
February 11, 2022, 12:54:06 PM
My friend Mitch just emailed this never-before-seen (by me) HERTZ photo! The fact that it is dated in 1966 is just off the charts cool!!

I have no details or information on this photo (I'm sure he would have included it if he had any) but I'll be reconnecting with him anyway to see if he at least remembers where he found it...

In the meantime, enjoy:

Shelby American History / Shelby's Sky Terrace Motel Ads
November 30, 2021, 02:53:22 PM
More MCACN scores!

These newspaper ads for Carroll Shelby's motel in Lake Tahoe show a later version of himself on the left and a vintage version of him on the right. The combo ad on the left also has a nice shot of CSX2345 in a cool ad for Autosport Products, Inc. It mentions a "revised 1971 Cobra Parts Book" and the ad on the right had race results on the back that I was able to Google date as April 24, 1970 - so it's nice to be able to have a date for these two ads.
