I have noticed that the placement of the ammeter junction box varies on the subject cars with the placement 1) in front of the starter solenoid, and 2) in back of the starter solenoid (see pics).

Which location is correct?

If both locations are correct, why the variation ... model, convertible/coupe/fastback, plant?

Were the Inner Fender VIN tags sometimes riveted outside of the cut in the fender like what is shown in the attached pic? Thanks
