I recently purchased a soft flannel lined custom fit cover from CA Car Covers and am very happy.  I went this route since I had purchased the same cover for one of my Thunderbirds years ago and it has held up very well and protected the car indoors as expected.  I especially like the custom fit.  Lastly, I thought the cost was very reasonable for the quality of the product.  And no, I do not work for CA Car Covers:)

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Pop Rivets
August 25, 2020, 02:08:25 PM
I am curious to know if there is a specific size pop rivet (length and diameter) for the hood pin plates and the side brake scoops on the 66' GT350.  Also, were they aluminum or stainless steel?  Thanks!

My 66 GT350 is a factory auto trans car (non-Hertz), however the original trans is long gone.  The current auto trans in the car is not a C servo trans, but operates just fine.  I would prefer a 4 speed.  I know everyone's car is personal to them, but I would be interested in members thoughts on replacing the auto with a manual trans (engine is original).  Money is not the main issue, but I do want to make sure I maintain the car's value.  I would appreciate members feedback on this conversion.
Thanks!

Parts For Sale / K Code Hi-Po Auto Trans For Sale
April 16, 2020, 04:38:31 PM
I have an original K Code Hi-Po auto trans with the fat "C" servo for sale. Both the case and the original metal tag are dated August 19,1965.  It is being sold with the original torque converter and fly wheel - a complete unit.  The trans case is very clean, but it would be best to go through it to determine if a rebuild is necessary.  It is priced at $5500.  If SAAC 45 goes ahead as planned, I could possibly deliver to the event.  Please PM me for pictures and/or questions.  Located in WI.

Thanks, Kerry

All,

I have had a number of inquiries on the hi-po auto trans I have for sale, but no buyer yet.  Thanks to all that have provided feedback and I hope to find the Shelby owner that this trans date matches their need.

Thanks, Kerry

Cory,

The trans has the fat "C" servo.  I have not confirmed the valve body or counter weight.  I bought the unit from a reputable Shelby person and it was still attached to the original K Code engine when I went and picked it up.  I would be happy to confirm the valve body and counter weight, but will stand behind the trans that it is the real deal.

Thanks, Kerry

I have an original K Code Hi-Po auto trans that I would like to sell.  I bought this trans for my 1966 Shelby GT350, but decided to go in another direction.  Both the case and original metal tag are dated August 19, 1965.  It is being sold with original torque converter and fly wheel - a complete unit.  The trans is very clean, but it would be best to go through it to determine if rebuild is necessary.  Will take $5500.  Please PM me for pictures and/or questions.

I'm looking for some insight into the approximate date for an auto trans. Based on sheet metal dates, engine date, etc., I have concluded my 6S1645 was built in early to mid-March, 1966.  The auto trans I currently have is an original K-code Hi-Po auto trans with the fat "C" servo and the original metal tag with an August, 1965 build date.  Is it possible this could be the right trans build date range for my car, or would this be too early?  If it is too early, what would the appropriate date range be for a March, 1966 Shelby auto trans build be?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Thanks for the tips Randy.  I'll give it a try this weekend.

I'm looking to do a light cleaning on the face of my '66 GT350 tach.  I don't want to disassemble the entire tach since it works great.  I would prefer to just remove the front cover.  Any advice before I blindly tear into it?

Thanks, Kerry

The Lounge / Re: Custom Radial Tires

Brian,

I've bought a number of tire sets from Diamond Back Classics for a few of my 1955-1957 Tbirds.  Always happy with the quality and service from them.  I have not bought any tires for my Shelby's from them, but do like what they have to offer.

I mistakenly transposed the main case and tail codes.  The tail has the C4AP code and the main body has the C6DP code with a 8/65 build.

Thanks for your replies.  My '66 GT350 is a December '65 San Jose build so I assume it should have a skinny C servo.  Where I'm confused is the code on the main trans body, near the selector shaft is C4AP.  My understanding is this would be a C - 1960's; 4 - 1964; A -generic/Galaxie; P - auto Trans.  If it was correct, shouldn't it be a 6 for 1966 and Z for Mustang?

I don't have a concours car, nor will I ever make it one, but I would like to have it right.  Given how difficult it is to find the appropriate trans maybe I should focus on just finding a skinny C servo.
