Interesting. That washer looks like something off a shock. My floor pan holes were pretty tore up as well. Not the best design, but guess it helped.

Concours Talk / 65 GT350 floor pan exhaust hanger
June 19, 2025, 12:38:29 PM
Working on replacing my exhaust on my late 65 and have a few questions. My car had holes in the floor pan and what looks like rub marks from a round rubber grommet, but all the hardware was gone. Should the U-bolt attach directly to the inner bracket as I have in the photos? This places the mufflers pretty low. Anyone have any photos of an unrestored car with the holes in the lower part of the floor pan?

For the leaf spring mount. Did they just add the bracket and a second nut? I only get about three turns of thread engagement with the second nut. Was a locknut used?

Thanks

That was my guess from what I could find photo wise on the internet. I have not found a good photo of the inner floor pan bracket. Did the exhaust clamp just pickup one of the two holes in the bracket? Which hole was used the upper or lower?

Thanks,
Paul

Related question. I see two different style hanger brackets depending on the supplier. A two hole bent bracket and a one hole stamped bracket. From what I have seen the inner floor pan hanger would use the two hole bracket. Did the leaf spring use the stamped bracket?

1965 GT350/R-Model / Side Exhaust

Looking for any recommendations or recent experience with sourcing a replacement side exhaust system for my 65. My original system is long gone so I will need the full system minus with mounting hardware. Looking for the most correct system available for a late 65. My floor pans have the typical mounting holes drilled near the seat belt mounts that I would like to reuse.  My car is a late Hayward Ford car and originally came with a rear exiting exhaust, but want to go with the side exiting.

Thanks

1965 GT350/R-Model / Driveshaft Loop
May 07, 2025, 10:29:28 PM
I have a couple of driveshaft loop questions. When I bought my car in the 1980s, a previous owner had replaced the exhaust and in the process the original driveshaft loop was torched off. The remaining pieces of the loop are 1-1/4 wide. I purchased a reproduction loop, but it is only 1 inch wide. Were there different style driveshaft loops? Also, I have lost the attach hardware. Was the loop retained by a plain nut and washer or some type of locking nut with a flange?

Thanks,
Paul

Concours Talk / Re: 1965 G2 Radiator

The strange thing on the filler neck is it is soldered in the correct position for the over flow hose. Just the slots for the cap are about 45 degrees from normal. Not sure if it was swapped in the past or just built wrong originally.

I do not believe the radiator has been recorded. Does the core look correct for an original radiator? Would like to find a shop that can reuse the upper tank part of the core as I think the replacement cores are stamped differently.

Need to get my original radiator recored and am trying to determine if this is the original core with the correct upper bucket header. Also, the radiator cap is clocked differently than I normally see. Is that correct?   You cannot view this attachment. You cannot view this attachment.

1965 GT350/R-Model / Jack Bungee Cord Clamps
June 14, 2018, 10:36:57 AM
My 65 has the clamps for the jack bungee cord riveted directly to the floor. I have seen pictures of restored cars that show the clamps riveted through the trunk mat. What is considered correct? On a related note is the number on the bottom of the mat a date code? Can any one decipher "55 C922"?

Thanks,
Paul

Up For Auction / Re: 5S558 For Sale

I should have said standard 65 GT350 exhaust with glass packs. My car has the holes in the floor pan for the glass pack mounts, but had no signs of any mounts at the leaf springs. So Hayward Ford must of replaced the side pipes with rear pipes keeping the glass packs forward. Seems a little strange, but I don't have anything other than the original owners statement that it had a rear exiting exhaust when he purchased it and a picture of the car a few month old still wearing the blue dots. :)

I have a late 65 delivered to Hayward Ford that was bought new with the rear exiting exhaust, according to the original owner. I have a picture of the car from early 66 showing the exhaust that I will attempt to post. I am pretty sure it is the standard 65 exhaust with glass packs just exiting the rear of the car, not a factory non GT exhaust. I believe the Shelby parts catalog shows a similar exhaust.

My late 65 5S426 was sent to Hayward and still has the original RKA plates. The original owner purchased the car from Concord Ford in late 65. Have some pictures of the car when it is a few month old.
