Ask a Registrar / When did the FoMoCo logos change?
July 17, 2026, 04:14:52 PM
I have seen at least 3 different FoMoCo logos on alternator stamps and other 60's vintage parts and parts boxes.
Were these logos used simultaneously?   I think there are at least two styles of the rectangular logo.

I have 378366 grommets with mold cavity numbers 42, 91, and 102. I have a 381898S with cavity #47 and the rectangular FOMOCO logo and the #3. All are junkyard treasures.

I have new windshield in my original 289 Cobra, CSX 2429. I have the template to etch the old logo into the glass.
First I need to remove the new logo. It appears to be applied but isn't a sticker. Anyone done this?

I am in the process of compiling a document regarding the items included in original Cobra toolkits.
I have photographed numerous kits over the last 38 years including multiple one owner kits.
However, I paid little attention to the Thor hammers.
So now I am working on that tool and gathering more data on the other tools and tool roll/pouch.
If you have a Thor hammer that you know or think is original to your car could you provide me with photos of the following:
-photos of the front and back of the metal head including showing the numbers across the top of one side of the hammer head.
-a photo of the Thor sticker complete or remnants.

While you are at it, a photo of your complete kit would be nice for my records. Please include the serial number of the car.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Happy holidays to all.

Dave, I will be joining you on the field at Amelia with CSX 2401.
My two favorite Cobras together again!
I will be there starting Thursday at an Air B&B just north of the Ritz.
Is your garage space still available?
I look forward to seeing you again.
The Detroit Barn Find Hunter episode  with you and your gorgeous Cobra now has over 7 million views I think.
Thanks again for braving frigid temperatures to make the drive to the Fort on Lake Michigan where that episode was filmed.

I asked Bob about a book addressing the later Cobras. He said it took him decades to write the first one and now being much older he said he didn't have enough lifetime left to write that one.
I think he was serious.
No two Cobras were likely exactly the same regarding parts. Variations in suppliers, stock in and stock out, cost availability and other things all played a role.
"Most common" may be the best description of many parts.

The engine number was stamped on the Shelby serial number tag on at least some 289 Cobras.

The battery has been relisted at a lower reserve based on the expert opinions of several folks. Thanks for your feedback.
