News from HQ / Re: Checkered Flag - Dave Friedman
March 16, 2026, 09:33:49 AM
Hello Ned,
I do remember some issue with the ownership of the negatives from about 20 +/- years ago or something. Didn't Dave try or did attempt to "reacquire" the negatives back? As early SAI images and history regained popularity.
I vaguely remember hearing about this. It put David Friedman in a very bad light and made him very unpopular. (I'm being nice in my choice of words).
The pictures/images he took were incredible as it documented SAI from the beginning. But using your analogy of a wedding photographer and ownership of the negatives, was part of the issue.
Again this is what I remember, correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers,
~Earl J

How sad, the loss of Dave Friedman. He witnessed and photographed the incredible history of Shelby American. His photography in black and white captured the personalities of the people, the building and development of the cars, the races etc. Again, an incredible archive of images.
Condolences to his family and friends.

Godspeed.

Pete, enlighten me. Do you have issues with the seller or issues with the car? Just curious. The seller 1600Veloce sells quite a few high end cars. Again, just curious.

Replicas and Tribute / Re: My 65 GT 350 clone
January 03, 2026, 04:54:39 PM
Paul, Looks great! You previously owning several real 65 GT350's including a real R Model and now the Webered CSX21xx 289 Cobra. Building this clone makes sense, even more so without the stripes. You can drive the daylights out of this car. Smart move.  ;)
Most folks who build clones stripes them.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Re: Group 2 wheels and tires

Here are my set of PSE TA wheels in 15x8 with a 4 3/8" back spacing that Phil recommended. They fit on my car on all four corners. First pic with Goodyear GatorBacks 225/60-15's now with BFG 225's front and 235's rear.

Here is are a couple pics of the 67 TA Shelby Mustang Car (#12 I think) with the Kode Key Electronics livery restored and vintage raced by the late Walt Boeninger RIP long time member of NorCal Region Shelby Club (SAAC) and former treasurer of the club.

He told me when he restored the car, the correct wheels he could source at the time were the American Magnesium TA wheels from Bud Moore's Team Cougar in 15x8 which he said were "correct" for the Mustang. I really miss Walt. He was a truly good person.

As for current wheels, the only wheels that are identical in appearance to the American Magnesium TA are the ones from Phil Schmidt. The PSE TA one piece rims in 15x8 cast in modern aluminum alloy. Unfortunately the PSE wheels are no longer available.

There is however the magnesium TA wheels from Vintage Engineering. They are ungodly expensive that's if Vic will even make a set for you. They too are in 15x8 with any back spacing you request.

If you come across a preowned set of PSE TA wheels, buy them. But be prepared they will not be cheap.

Happy Holidays,

Thanks trotrof1. That's what I thought. I'm thrilled that I found this shop that would redo my radiator the way I want. I saw samples of his work. I didn't tell him what the radiator was for but just a "Mustang".

1965 GT350/R-Model / C4ZE G2 Radiator core question
November 10, 2025, 06:37:19 PM
I should know this, but for the life of me I can't remember. Old age...hah! Should the G2 Radiator be a 2 row or 3 row core? I'm thinking it should be a 2 row core. I finally found a radiator shop (old school) that will rebuild my 2/65 G2 radiator with the correct looking core fins. He told me he can rebuild it either way.
I've been using this/my Group II or R Model radiator forever it seems, both are W/MO radiators.
This would probably be a Bob G or Jeff S question. Thank you

Cheers,

CSX 2000 Series / Re: CSX-2329 alive and well.

Positioning and placement is important when it comes to car shows. You have no idea who or what will park next to you. In this case CSX2329 is between a large Lincoln Town car and a bright red Fox body Mustang. Essentially buried.
Not only that, 2329 is surrounded by a couple "bitch'in Cameros" a SS chevelle, what looks like a Challenger and a feisty fiesta (so says it's front plate. God knows what ever else.
This may have not been the ideal venue for 2329.
Even so, displaying would have been better on an end of an isle, corner or near the entrance taking as much room (space on both sides or one side as allowed). IMO
Early arrival is key.

Cheers,

John,

I have the instructions for the 39000 series for the BEI II and dual point 37000 series. I have 2 37201T (T for tach drive series) one with a cast iron gear and one with bronze gear for steel cam shafts that has a FoMoCo oval stamp on the lower body. (289/302 & BOSS302 applications) I also have 3 different flavors of upper trigger units; points, Pertronx and electronic BEI type Lazer II. One unit I disguised with "Autolite" just for kicks. I even have a Jones tach with "Bud Moore Eng." logo on the face.
I'm unfamiliar with the 35000 series. I know Accel went from 32000 to the 37000 series.I can email you any page of the instructions. Let me know.

Cheers,

How sad. Miki and I spoke for a bit on that Thursday morning headed for DemBeste's in front of the SAAC 50 Hotel. Kei went to get the Cobra and we chatted for a bit. I spoke to her again when we arrived at DemBeste's as Kei parked on the side of the building.
Both Miki and Kei I would see at some of our NorCal Mini Nat's and SAAC conventions over the years. Again very sad to hear this. My condolences to Kei, friends and family.

Sincerely,

My dash will look funny with two of them. (One of each side)
