Congrat's Vern & family!

For the record, this car sold for $500K. Not sure if that includes the buyer's fees - anyone know?

The Sotheby's listing still does not include a description for this car. Now I am curious to see what that says!

The Board Room / Re: 2024 annual publication

Quote from: SunDude on February 22, 2025, 10:17:00 AMHave any of my fellow Canadian members received their 2024 annual yet?

Nothing in my mailbox yet...

Received mine last week in BC.

No, my point was more that I would rather avoid the circus of running a car through a major auction, including online auctions like BaT. Credible dealers, like yourself, provide a valuable service that some sellers utilize, and pay a fee for that service either out of convenience or if they are unable to find a buyer on their own. Like I said, my preference would be (when the time comes) to sell to someone who approaches me privately and offers fair market value for my car. That may be unlikely to happen, but is still my "preferred scenario". Failing that a credible dealer/broker would be my next choice. Cheers!

Its always best when a private sale is made to someone that has really wanted the car and a fair price is agreed to. That would definitely be my preference as a seller!

Quote from: SFM5S383 on January 20, 2025, 10:58:57 PMHappy to join the forum having just purchased SFM5S383 at Mecum Kissimee.  I've heard A LOT of good things about you folks. :-)

Congratulations on the purchase! That was an exciting auction. Lots of fellow owners and subject matter experts here to share information. Welcome to the forum!

2 cars from the list that stick out for me are CSX3009 and SFM5S383, both high quality examples with pretty high estimates. Be interesting to see what they fetch.

Up For Auction / Re: SFM5S208 on BAT

The seller provided yet another master-class on how to alienate potential buyers that have legitimate questions by accusing them of sandbagging his auction. After three massive fails in 18 months he has likely tainted 5s208 for future transactions.

Quote from: FL SAAC on October 08, 2024, 07:47:37 AMThat money is for original but refurbished wheels.
Ironically at the end of the day they (original and replacement) both look the same front and back. Same DOT compliant replacement rims and the centers are cast by the same company that did the originals and the same in appearance.

So would concours judges take that into account, ie: would there be a premium on unrestored original Cragars for someone doing a concours level restoration back to original spec?

Quote from: deathsled on August 25, 2024, 10:52:08 PMI would say examples of cult cars would be the Bullitt Mustang or Ken Miles's 5R002 race car.  Any significant race car with provenance.  Or movie cars such as Christine.  Any car that has a mystique about it.  Much like the cult of personality.

Agree. Toby Halicki's car from the original Gone in 60 Seconds, or the Challenger from Vanishing Point also come to mind. To me a cult car would have enough fame/significance that is has a following.
