Offered for sale is CSX 2439, an authentic, factory-built 1965 Shelby Cobra 289 produced by Shelby American during the final and most refined phase of original 289 Cobra production.
This is a true period Cobra, built in the 1960s as part of Shelby American's original production run, and not a continuation, recreation, or tribute. Importantly, the car retains its original, factory-installed, matching-numbers drivetrain, a distinction that places it among a very small and highly desirable group of surviving Cobras.
The CSX chassis sequence traces its roots directly back to CSX 2000, the first Shelby Cobra and the car that launched Carroll Shelby's vision of combining a lightweight British chassis with American V-8 power. The 289-powered Cobra became the purest and most successful expression of that idea, forming the foundation of Shelby American's early international racing achievements. CSX 2439 sits squarely within this original lineage and represents the fully matured execution of the Cobra concept.
By 1965, the 289 Cobra platform had benefited from years of development, competition experience, and continuous refinement. Late-production examples such as CSX 2439 feature fully developed chassis geometry, proven and durable drivetrain combinations, improved cooling and braking systems, and a level of build consistency informed by extensive racing use.
