Sold for $715k including the juice...  Non original engine ?   The description was a little vague on that topic.

SAAC-50 / Re: SAAC50 Concours Results
August 29, 2025, 12:44:13 PM
Isn't it also the case at Pebble Beach that participants are invited to drive their very expensive cars (the horror!) on a tour?   Geez, driving a very very expensive car...outside...in the sun!  What will they think of next??

While I didn't participate in the Concours portion of SAAC-50 I went over and watched.  It was a beautiful day!  Complete with beautiful automobiles.  Well done.  Being different than the NCRS guys is fine with me.

Maybe at the higher end of the market for a car with non-original engine and transmission.   Also curious is the mention that the serial number is stamped on the passenger door hinge....What about the drivers side?  Hood latch?  Trunk latch?

He did several gauges for me, always friendly and great service.   Sorry to see he passed.

This is not the history I documented on this car when I owned it in the 90's.
Mr Vinnie knows the story "in full ", so did Big Jim Cowles

Did the history change ??

Quote from: Special Ed on January 19, 2025, 08:32:42 AMHow can a 65 shelby be worth more than a 289 cobra or in the same price range ?

Good question!  As far as rarity, they were produced in similar numbers.... Maybe they should be priced in the same range???

CSX 2000 Series / gas cap...
January 16, 2025, 12:01:55 PM
Is there more than one variation of gas caps on small block street cars?  I've seen a smooth round type of pop open cap as well as the more common more oval cap with a raised machined line across the cap.

If the more oval type is correct, I am in need of one.  Acton told me their supplier isn't making them at the moment so I have not been able to locate one.

If anyone has a cap, I am in need.   Thanks.

That's not fair!  haha I'm only 55...  I'm going to identify as 75 so I can park some of my cars with the cool old guys!

Quote from: 65cobra on December 10, 2024, 12:16:43 PM100% agree a basketcase is a labor of love. And a loosing $ proposition.  That said I am ok owning one :)

what does a legit concours type restoration cost now.  Like an original car with all its parts there, teardown, rebuild, body, paint, assembly, paint markings, stickers etc?  Best case scenario 100k?  or can it be 75k?  From one of the handful of guys in the nation that know how to do this?

I don't intend to go down that path, I am more interested in having a good driver or sweaty survivor.  Bonus points if its actually one that could logistically be restored.  like the bat gt500 below.

something like the 73k gt500 project to Brets 89k gt350.  Brets car is a great candidate, but I kind of prefer a 67-68 or a 69 gt500.

I don't see any scenario where a restoration is $75k.  Or even a $100k.  More like $150k, and that depends on the level, as well as the car.  There are some very, very expensive parts on a '65, a correct transmission can be $20k.  I'm not as familiar with the later years' pricing, but everything is costly.  Buy one done, or close if you are on a tight budget.

Up For Auction / Re: 5 Original Restored Cragars on BaT

Bob, yes, I used quotes on "legally" to convey that it was not a quote verbatim.  Perhaps I used the wrong term.  The liability issue is certainly the underlying rationale for not using original rims.  Thanks

I'm pretty certain I saw this discussed on here more than once...He can't "legally" reattach a non DOT marked rim back to the center, even if it was manufactured that way.

So it begs the question...Why pay more than double for original centers on new rims?   I can see the argument for an intake manifold, valve covers, oil pans, a carb or other items that remain as manufactured after they are refinished or restored.   Once half of the item is replaced, it's not really "original" in my view.   But clearly the buyer has a different view!

Ironically at the end of the day they (original and replacement) both look the same front and back. Same DOT compliant replacement rims and the centers are cast by the same company that did the originals and the same in appearance.

Is there any way to distinguish a replacement set from a restored, re-rimmed set?  Both have the same S1MS part number?
