Quote from: Coralsnake on June 05, 2026, 01:41:07 PMCan we talk about the description and title?

I get what you are saying re conversion in the title and with a little reading it should be clear that conversion was solely related to the trans but....... yea "conversion" should not be in the title of any 60s Shelby car. It may have resulted in people skipping right over the listing. Very well may have played a part. who knows.  Conversion. replica. tribute, clone.......  not words I would want to see on the title if it were my car.

I was telling my friend to go higher. He said his computer locked up and he ended up being the second highest.

Quote from: shelbymann1970 on May 16, 2026, 10:01:33 AMI'm not sure it would be illegal to stamp a vin on a block. Shelbys were never titled by a vin on the block. Also say someone found a correct block and stamped it and now called the car numbers matching and not say " guarantied original engine "  is that illegal? I'd say not. Unethical? Yes. Now Chevies prior to 1972 if someone built a very rare car where you cannot tell what it is because of the lack of engine vin and sold it as said rare car to me that would be fraud but it might be hard to prove?

I believe NCRS allows a restamp on the block and defines it as a restoration stamp or something along those lines. Many decades ago my uncle educated me that numbers matching and original motor are not necessarily the same thing.

I rarely contribute as their are so many more people who can answer a question with 100% certainty when I am only 95% certain. Every now and then ill send a pic in to possibly be submitted to the magazine (Shelby Americana) so I do try to contribute in even a small way if I can.  I am on here a lot more now, now that a lot of the silliness is gone so who knows, maybe Ill see something I can confidently chime in on.

Do you think the documented history is a blessing or a curse?
What about the color change from Silver to what looks like, to me at least, to be Toreador Red?

Documented history is blessing for anyone who may be interested and a curse for any future owners unless of course the price is right. What is the right price?  I have zero clue. Maybe a nice Superformance but its already exceeded that and then some.

Color change?  At this point who would possibly care?

2 friends of mine have looked at this car. It has been for sale a long time. Neither of them gave it much thought.

Ferraris? He could have said any brand ...

Yea, but this car (once again any brand) just needs a little work and is pretty cheap (for now).

That video should be required watching for new car enthusiasts.

Quote from: pchmotoho on July 31, 2025, 06:11:57 PMI too was curious about this question regarding 66 glass over metal hoods. Years ago one well known expert believed they should be black but he did say never say never. I later asked another expert and he said my original paint red car could definitely have red under the hood.

From looking at various pictures of original paint (supposedly) red 66s. I have seen more than a few hoods painted red underneath.

Sure you have but were any of those examples truly unrestored with original paint?  Since a fair number of these cars were getting repainted or touched up in the 70's older paint jobs can often look like original paint to some and for many owners a worn, possibly rusting in places bottom side looked much better matching the exterior color. Few cared about being original them. Just had to be fast and in most cases get attention. Just my experience given growing up around fast and hot rodded cars cars from day one.

We might even have examples from 66 of cars with the fiberglass & steel hoods from around the same time frame as your car that haven't been repainted.

Except for mine I have no idea if the others  were truly original paint, hence the "supposedly" in my original comment. My car was built in Feb 66.

I'm aware of the hood issues Shelby American had with the 66s. If you had to guess what would you say is the correct color under the hood for say a blue, red, or green 66?

Thanks

Quote from: silverton_ford on June 18, 2025, 12:17:17 AM5S332  Really cool!

I was thinking about this earlier today....   Remember the days when we only heard about these amazing finds in Mustangs & Fords magazine in the "Rare Finds" section?   Maybe a couple 2"x2" photos and a few paragraphs....  Today we are spoiled with gobs of photos and video footage.

Is there a 65 GT350 that Craig doesn't know about?  Great video. Glad to see it that's it's getting restored.
