Thanks for your replies.  Makes sense.  Charles, I now own the 1968 Shelby GT500KR, was once owned by my friend the late  Allen Stewart, that your restored for Wayne Campbell. Nice job!

Is it necessary to unzip the split glass rear window before putting the top down?

Thank you all for the information.  Neither one of my GT500KR's have a grommet either so looks like I am good to go.

This is a picture I run across.  Apparently it is not a 1968 Shelby GT500DR trunk.

Is there supposed to be a grommet in the 1 1/4" hole to protect the trunk light wiring?  And, if so, are they available?  Thanks

I am searching for a snap in inner console lens.  Any out there?  Thanks

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / 1968 Shelby GT500KR options

I have a 1968 Shelby GT500KR convertible with a matching right rear view mirror and a locking glove compartment door (same key as trunk). I suspect that the locking door was factory and the mirror added.  Am I correct?

Thanks Bob.  I appreciate your response.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / 1968 Shelby GT500KR Oil Cap
December 21, 2025, 11:32:36 AM
I own two 1968 Shelby GT500KR convertibles.  Both are supposedly restored to MCA judging standards.  However, they have different oil caps. One marked Motocraft and the one with a brass fitting is marked Autolite. Were both styles used or is only one of them correct?  Thanks for any info you can provide.

I need to install a trunk light where none presently exists.  How do I thread a new light through the lid.  I realize I will also have to run a ground wire as well.  Thanks for any helpful information.

This live yellow wire with black stripe is unconnected.  The only yellow wire with black stripe found in the 1968 Mustang wiring manual is for a fuel warning light.  Where should this be connected?  Thanks

Is anyone reproducing the Autolite 24F battery?

Wanted to Buy / 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible

I have been searching for a 1968 Shelby GT500KR convertible with factory AT and AC for some time now.  At the age of 84 I hope to find one while I am young enough to enjoy it.  Will appreciate any lead you may have.  Thanks, Wayne wlk1941@aol.com
