1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Air conditioner compressor
September 07, 2026, 08:32:28 AM
I have noticed that the compressors on restored 1968 Shelby GT500KR's are either painted black or left plain. Are they correct either way?  My KR was restored by a SAAC head judge and left plain.  Thanks, Wayne

Thanks for the speedy info on JEGS, much appreciated.

Thank you for the very helpful information.  However I am unable to find a supplier for a 3.98 stroke. A lead would be appreciated.  Thanks, Wayne

Because the black wire running through the firewall, along with the oil pressure wire, does not seem to have a purpose I expect that it should be removed, correct?

Quote from: Coralsnake on June 21, 2026, 09:05:40 AMI will bet your oil gauge doesnt work.

Oil pressure gauge works fine.  Sender connected to White/red wire from the 3way connector.  This unconnected white/red wire comes out of the firewall in a different place (see picture) and does lead to the console. Black one comes out of the same place.  White/red wire must be redundant.

On my 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible with AC I have these two wires that are not connected to anything.  One is black and the other white with red stripe. Any help?  Thanks

Thanks for your replies.  Makes sense.  Charles, I now own the 1968 Shelby GT500KR, was once owned by my friend the late  Allen Stewart, that your restored for Wayne Campbell. Nice job!

Is it necessary to unzip the split glass rear window before putting the top down?

Thank you all for the information.  Neither one of my GT500KR's have a grommet either so looks like I am good to go.
#14
This is a picture I run across.  Apparently it is not a 1968 Shelby GT500DR trunk.

Is there supposed to be a grommet in the 1 1/4" hole to protect the trunk light wiring?  And, if so, are they available?  Thanks
