I always equated Shelbys with performance and racing, I guess, and i appreciate the heritage. I never got the impression he was too concerned with how pretty the cars are or how they'd present at shows.

Perhaps Corvettes are different. Corvettes were built to be pretty, and most of them are. Shelbys were built to beat Corvettes by out-shining them on race tracks, not golf courses.

But most people buy cars to drive. And a few buy cars to shine and admire. And that's fine.

OK, now I'm confused.

So you really wouldn't care that much if the cars are in the sun, or not, if it's on a famous golf course ?

Shelbys at a race track ? So out of place. Who'd have thunk that ?

I heard that, the week before SAAC50, the Pebble Beach Concours had cars sitting out in the open sun, in the salt air near a huge ocean, after it drizzled in the morning.

I'd like to thank the organizers of SAAC50 for providing dry air and actual pavement to park the cars on, instead of that damp, dirt-laden grass. All the best cars were there and looked great gleaming in the sun.

It was a great day in whine country.

Quote from: gt350cs on August 12, 2025, 10:30:30 PM.... We also went around several times abought the fact that the car should be registered as Ford. The best that I could do was get them to submit SHLBY which is in their system as an option, but not SHELBY...go figure.

I am getting way to old for this!!!!!!!!
Krap. They've got "GT500" for the MAKE in my reg. Not Shelby or Ford, and that was how it was when I got it forty years ago.

Quote from: last2brake on August 20, 2025, 04:37:25 PMI guess the question is obvious...is there going to be a level paved spot to park my motorcycle at Sears Point if I decide to ride it one day ? It's a heavy motorcycle....

Request VIP Parking when entering the track
Thank you.

Yeah, Thanks. I probably wouldn't have remembered to put the puck where I could reach it without putting the stand down.

Thanks.

Quote from: J_Speegle on August 18, 2025, 03:13:11 PMPray for a little breeze.

The black top can add another 5-10 degrees on a hot day. Or at least it will feel that way.

Hydrate today for tomorrow, find some sunscreen and get a hat.
Yep. Pray for the breeze. And bring alot of water in case someone else needs some.

Do NOT look online for the weather in San Francisco if you want to know what the weather is like at Sears Point.

Right now, it looks to be in the low nineties on Thursday, but in the eighties for the weekend.

Right now, I'd be more concerned about the Friday night traffic in the Bay Area when driving to Martinez.

Quote from: last2brake on June 09, 2025, 11:20:41 AMI do wonder what they'd do at Pebble if it rained in August, but I can't remember it EVER raining in August unless it's in the Sierras. It did rain twice in July, in the last 60 years.

But that sun might fade the paint.

I've seen pics of PB with plastic over cars during rain.  Guess they have contingency plans, especially for open cars without a top.

Guess so. I just don't remember it.

Somewhat back on topic, I've lived near Sears Point (which is more inland) since before there was a race track there. I remember it raining enough for the pavement to get wet here maybe a couple of times in July in sixty years, but I doubt we've had more than a tenth-of-an-inch rain TOTAL in ALL of the last sixty Augusts.

If it rains at Sears Point during the Convention Concours, I'll dry off all the cars that aren't convertibles. I won't declare it won't rain, because that's a sure way to make it rain.

Sorry. Hijack off....

Cobras and Shelbys are low value cars in that crowd. They also have judging as critical as the Riddler award.
Yep. It's the premier Concours, for sure. But it's kool that some of them are driven and parked outdoors.

But I'm never going to have a car nice enough to enter in any Concours so I barely have a clue about even keeping a car clean...but I can drive them

SAAC-50 / Re: RV Parking?

If I were looking for a nice RV campground closer to San Rafael and Sears Point, I would check out the KOA in Petaluma before I looked into any in Napa.

https://koa.com/campgrounds/san-francisco/albums/

It's called a 'San Francisco KOA" but don't let that scare you. It's an hour away from SF.

We live in Napa and actually go to the Petaluma KOA for short weekends. It's a very nice, clean campground and they have cabins, too.

I would have said something sooner, but I just found out SAAC 50 was going to be so close. I went to SAAC 3 and SAAC 6, but it's been awhile. Am I dating myself ? I still have my '67
