1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Re: Group 2 wheels and tires
December 05, 2025, 01:30:37 PM
The Group 2 cars raced under the rules in FIA Appendix J.  In the first year of Trans Am racing, 1966, Appendix J did not specify specific wheel sizes.  Appendix J simply stated that the wheels used had to be the wheels that were supplied  by the manufacturer as listed in the Recognition Form approved by the FIA.  The 1966 Recognition Form for the Mustang listed wheels sizes as 15 x 7 or 15 x 8.

For 1967, the Recognition Form for the Mustang might be different.

AMC sourced steering boxes from the same vendor as GM.  So, steering boxes on Javelins and Camaros are similar.  The Javelin TA cars used T-10 tranmissions.  Of course, the T-10s were outsourced and also used in Ford TA cars (with different input shafts).  Penske / Donohue did have AMC add specific calipers to the AMC parts book, but the calipers were not Ford parts.  Other than aftermarket parts (Hurst, Stewart Warner, Holley, etc) that were open within the rules, I do not know of any Ford parts that cross over to the TA Javelin.

On June 1, 2024 the Cobra Experience celebrate another amazing annual "Cobra Day".  Participants brought 12 original Cobras (that I saw, could have been more).  The Cobras displayed by participants included a selection of nice CSX3200 series Cobras.  In addition, one participant showed his COB Cobra that had not been out since 1971.
Of course, a number of significant Cobras reside in the museum.

Today, I attended "Cobra Day" at the Cobra Experience.  Approximately 16 real Cobras were on display and many more inside in the museum.  It was a terrific event.  Photos attached of three of the Cobras.

Wanted to Buy / Re: WTB Cobra 427 valve covers
May 27, 2023, 09:46:10 AM
I would prefer original.  But, reproductions are acceptable also.  With that in mind, I called Cobra Automotive and Branda.  Both are out-of-stock on the Blue Thunder reproduction valve covers.

Wanted to Buy / WTB Cobra 427 valve covers
May 26, 2023, 05:38:49 PM
I am looking for cast aluminum valve covers for a Ford FE engine that have "Cobra 427" on the top.  Either a pair or one individual valve cover.  Thanks.

Concours Talk / 428 Cobra bellhousing finish
February 26, 2022, 11:33:28 AM
On a 1966 Cobra with a 428, how should the bellhousing be finished?  I have seen bellhousings that are painted dark Ford blue, others that are painted black, and some that are raw cast iron.

What is the correct paint color for a 428 PI engine in a 1966 Cobra?     I have seen restored Cobras with the engine painted black, dark Ford blue, and light Ford blue.

What are the correct spark plug wires for a Cobra with a 428 PI engine?  Have they been reproduced?
