I'm a little confused here. I own a 2016 GT-H, Car#54 (that is the number assigned by Shelby). Yes the car was a Ford VIN numbered Mustang GT before going to Shelby & Hertz.
Weren't ALL (1960's to current) Shelby Mustangs produced by Ford FIRST with a Ford VIN Number? Weren't those VIN'd Ford Mustangs then sent to Shelby? Don't all those ORIGINAL Shelby Mustangs have a Ford VIN number as well.
The only difference I see here is that the cars were SOLD to Hertz instead of the general public first.
Either way, I still own 1 of 172 50th Anniversary Hertz Shelby's produced that was actually modified by Shelby American and not built by Ford SVT/Performance etc. It doesn't matter who's parts went on the car, more that who installed them. For the record, not all of the parts installed by Shelby American were Ford Performance Parts. There were some Shelby Only items as well (mostly cosmetic).
Just my 2 cents worth.
