Is there any hope of refurbishing the original regulators or is it just best to buy new repro units?  Watching the WCCC video it seems the gears wear out which I assume is impossible to refurbish?
They can be done but ill advised for the beginner. You use the crank gear from a passenger side unit (drivers side used 10:1)
We made special tools to remove/install springs and have correct rivets. Very dangerous without

As far as I know nobody makes a rattle can version of it that's accurate. Ditzler # 72096  called Mardi Gras red.  As far as hardware Virginia Mustang has the rear washers bushings and nut covers   I believe the front bayonet bushings are available from cobra automotive

With black plug boots marked AUTOLITE?
Definitely black boots and I  thought  they had autolite molded into them. They're away in my storage. Next time I go over there I can pull them out and take pictures but probably won't be after  New year

My info is from original cars not books
Not sure whats pissy about that answer Bob? I'll try to answer in a way that seems softer to you.

"Although books are a valuable resource known original examples are always the best source. The examples I'm speaking of are from known original cars"

Does that seem softer? Certainly don't want to offend anyone.

I don't have access to my picture library right now but I believe number one plug wire gets sleeve because of heat shield
