Thanks to you too, Pete.   Makes sense.

Thanks for the info, Bob.  I'm always up for learning something new about the cars we all love.

Here's a question: Why would a Shelby-destined car have been built with a hood ground strap?

I assume that a strap would only be needed on cars with the Mustang's optional turn-signal hoods.

Weren't all SAI cars in '68 delivered to AO Smith without hoods?

Thus, I'd think that there would be no need to have the cars spec'd with the turn-signal hood ground strap at all.

Am I missing something here?

My KR, built 5/16/68, has the same clip and hex-head fastener as shown above by J_Speegle.

Here's a few Qs:

Was it standard procedure for a damaged car to be buried at the crash site?

Did a heavy equipment operator have that kind of discretion over someone else's property?

Wouldn't the insurance company have impounded the Shelby, to determine the $$ payout?

I agree with 98SVT about where the "sand" areas of SoCal, alongside the train lines, is likely to begin.

I'm not disputing anything that anyone else knows about this event. But, I'm scratching my head at the question of a buried car.

Very cool.  I hope you set fast lap time around the parking structure.

My Kirkham has a similar bar and belts. I don't mind the looks, but that's a personal thing.

Wasn't there discussion on the old forum about the benefits of having the mounting point of shoulder straps be high, rather than bolting to the floor?
Something about the angles of compression, were you to be in an altercation?

100%  I am proud to be a friend of Lynn's, for nearly 40 years.  He has generously helped me throughout the years...and as recently as this month.
The world needs more guys like him.

Yes, Montana works well.  Except if you get hassled by a fussy LEO in CA, over the plate not matching your driver's license state.

I realize that many people do this with their high end cars/RVs, etc. (I have too) and never get hassled.

My CPA told me that the CA State Board of Equalization (AKA the Tax Man) isn't too happy about it, however.

I chose to register my Kirkham, my KR, and three of my pricey Brand X sports cars in CA.  Paid the $$ and can thus rest easy.  (Plus, then those cars are eligible for original CA YOM plates or the new black and yellows. I have both kinds.)

IMHO, parting out a "very nice original" Cobra is so wrong to even contemplate.

Hmm, I don't know which one to choose. So difficult. Maybe an Ecoboost Mach 1.  That sounds awesome.

What's next, a hybrid B9?

I am interested in seeing any pix of the train crash.

And maybe a few factual bullet points for those of us just now coming up to speed on the topic.

Thanks!

Was that a production color scheme?

Imagine the amount and variety of swear words that came out of CS's mouth that day!
