The early cars typically had the silver rivets as evidence on some early cars unrestored cars and vintage photo's(#0050) . I don't know when the change to the black rivets happened but probably not too many before it did. For sure not any later then when rivets were used on the tail panel.
So if I understand correctly, the VIN plate rivets on an early car might or might not be black depending on how early? My car, #0066, has a SA completion date 8 days after #0050, can I assume (dangerous I know) it falls in the might/might not category?

When acquired the car did not have black rivets but I have no reason to believe the plate had never been off. The engine compartment had been "detailed" with no discernable evidence the plate had been masked off.

Thanks.

What do I need to know about these? From what I can tell from around the web the '67(s) should have black rivets, does this include early cars? They're the same as the tail light rivets?

it also looks like the hood pins are "pointed" inward and not out toward the fenders, or is it just me?

Just me then. I guess it depends one's frame of orientation i.e. fore-to-aft or aft-to-fore in how to describe it. Either way I have an adjustment to make : ).

Thanks JD!

Does anyone care to take a stab at why the center section of the stripe behind the lettering might be missing?

As for the cuffs, I too sported this fashion feature on my dungarees as a human of single digit years during the era. It was more about not growing out of them in a few months and less about fashion as I recall. Anyone else remember having to turn them out and shake the dirt out before coming in the house?

And why is only the one leg cuffed if the car really was an automatic... the mystery deepens.

But seriously - it also looks like the hood pins are "pointed" inward and not out toward the fenders, or is it just me?

It was my understanding that the first '67's got the last '66 version door sill emblem (will find a photo to post) then the snake two lines of text version.

I have one on ebay  right now.  advanced search by seller acman63  Link  https://www.ebay.com/itm/282827537316   BTW Ive probably owned a couple hundred nos sill emblems in the last 42 years  and Ive never seen a NOS  early 66 single line plate with raised CS   Im not sure they were ever serviced

By "late '66" I mean the 2 line CS version as depicted in JD's post (reply #5), did I misunderstand something? The link provided is to a single line CS version.

Thanks -

0066 has the late '66 style. One is in good condition, the other not so much. Does anyone know if these are generally available in a good quality repro or, God forbid, NOS?

QuoteMy 67 500 had/has same wheels..They are14by 6 and I am pretty sure we're put on along with low profile tires because of the sagging springs ::)air shocks too.....The spare which is an original speedway 350 is on a crusty mag star though.......

Mine suffered the same affliction (saggy springs and air shocks) when acquired. I pulled the air shocks out, put in a set of Koni's and quickly realized the air shocks where on it for a reason - and not a good one. The air shocks went back in until the restoration started. Live and learn.

nothing, after a double-digit '67 GT350 everything else seems less.
