It seems like every few months someone puts a GT up for sale claiming it is the "Lowest Milage Production GT in the World!"  I think they are getting a little too obsessed with mileage.  What would it even take to get this car running and sorted out?  It was never been properly broken in.

Anyone have any more info about this? Did they use a real Shelby?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Interesting hood feature
April 26, 2018, 09:52:57 AM
My good friend who is a long time '66 Hertz owner asked me if the space seen below the molded in hood scoop was correct as seen in this picture:

He had seen it on a '67 for sale online.  I honestly had never noticed that feature before and had to check to see if it was on my car when I got home from work. Sure enough, it was.  I just wondered how many '67 owners also never noticed this detail before?

Have you all seen the copper finished Cobra?  It looks like a big water kettle on the stove, but I really like it.  ;D

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Bronze 67 Mustang
April 22, 2018, 11:34:14 AM
I saw this car at a local show on Saturday.  The owner told me he bought it from the original owner and it has 48,000 original miles.  It had one repaint a few years ago.  I thought you all might like to see it since bronze is such a rare color to find out in the wild.

I do think they took some liberties with the shade as the original color isn't as nice as this.  Perhaps JD will post the pic he has of a similar car they did the same sort of thing with.  Still, it was great to see it.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Hood Pin Bracket Question
April 19, 2018, 09:53:47 AM
I have a friend in NJ who is restoring a '67, and he needs the hood pin brackets.  I have two I picked up from Branda over the last 2 years, and wondered how did they bend them to make the passenger's side?  Besides the bend, are they the same, or are the passenger side versions without the top slot?

Quick question:  Twice I have experienced the situation where the car wouldn't turn off when I switched the ignition key to off, and even removed the key!  The first time, I replaced the starter solenoid even though I suspected it was probably the ignition switch.  It didn't happen for a few months.  Last Saturday, it happened again.

Has anyone else ever had this happen to their Ford product?  I have an NOS switch, so I guess it's time to swap it out already.
Easy enough job?

Thanks!

Can anyone tell me the history behind this sticker?  If you're easily offended, I'd suggest passing on this one.

The Lounge / Former post counts
April 13, 2018, 03:27:25 AM
I hope this isn't going to upset too many folks on here that I truly respect for their knowledge and seemingly never ending desire to help others, but I can't help but notice the recent trend of members listing their previous forum post totals. I understand that after 'the crash' it can be hard for someone who is brand new to this forum to easily recognize who the big dogs are by their post counts alone.  Veterans and newbies alike were abruptly crashed to the same pecking order overnight, or at least it seems that way to the uninformed.  But if anyone spends more than a passing moment on here and actually reads the content, it quickly becomes apparent who knows what their are talking about and who is just along for the ride.

I even see members using      one      word       per      post     strategies to get their totals up.  Really?  I didn't realize it was that big a contest.  I think you should consider listing the year you first became active in the hobby below your avatar.  That would be a quick and easy way for all to see who's really a 'veteran' from who isn't.  Or list how many past year's worth of Branda or Virginia Classic Mustang catalogs you have on your shelf. Or even how many NOS parts you own that you actually bought from the Ford parts department yourself.  Now that impresses me.

This is really a special little place on the net.  There aren't too many sites that can even come close.  A big thanks to all that keep it that way.  You know who you are.
I'll get off the soapbox now.   ::)

When I purchased no. 26 from my friend JD, he had informed me that he had installed a very nice carpet set about 10 years previous.  In that short period of time though, the sun turned it more of a nice shade of brown than it's original black.  It has no holes, or wear  throughs, it's just faded.  I contemplated replacing it, and probably will do that in the next off season.  I did stumble upon a you tube video detailing how to dye your auto carpet in situ, so I thought I'd give it a shot.  This isn't for the concourse crowd, but perhaps a few of you may find this interesting and will consider giving it a go.

I used Rit Black Dye, mixed 1 to 1 with water.  I liberally dabbed it on with a sponge.  In theory they have numerous colors to chose from, so if you wanted to try this on your 65 Mustang convertible with the red pony interior, you're good to go. The end result seems to be a freshly dyed black carpet, still soft to the touch, unlike what you might get with using carpet spray paint.

Not mine, but I imagine they are pricing this car so high because of the 'dealer installed 427 side oiler.'

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mustang-Shelby-GT500/162892048127?hash=item25ed1f66ff:g:xQIAAOSw4Qdae6Oh&vxp=mtr

Vehicle Description

This GT-500 is 1 of only 5 that were ever created. Backed up with a MARTI report, this Shelby GT-500 has a dealer installed 427 side oiler. This rare Mustang had a complete rotisserie restoration completed on it and is as good as the day it drove off of the showroom floor! All of the stampings down to the Kelsey Hayes rims and steering wheel are correct for the era and is truly amazing to see a piece of automotive history preserved as well as this one has. The 427 side oiler has always been one of the most sought after of Ford engines for their high performance and racing pedigree. The Shelby GT-500 was the most powerful Mustang created in 1967 and was created in very limited quantities overall. This engine configuration from the factory was expected to make over 450 horsepower and the numbers were typically under rated. The look of the late sixties Mustang fastbacks are timeless. The swooping lines and sharp edges are unforgettable. This iconic American muscle car is not just a pretty face though. The car runs and drives very well and feels like endless amounts of power. As you drive along it is hard not to get caught up in the nostalgia while gripping the wood grain steering wheel and are looking into the faces of each Shelby gauge then looking to your right and seeing Carroll Shelby’s signature on the glove box is the icing on the cake! This piece of history is well documented and in superb shape. No matter if you plan on using at just a show piece or to drive occasionally you are surely to be the only one in your group with the same car. This vehicle is located in our Denver showroom. You can view this 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-500 in greater detail including HD pictures and an HD video of it running and driving at . If you are interested in purchasing this vehicle or have more questions regarding it please call us at 303-351-7058 or email us at.

Starting at 2:15 some great footage of a 1969 Boss 302 being chased by a '70 Road Runner (really a Satellite?).  Unfortunately, it doesn't end well.  Fast forward to the end if you ever wondered what happened to Marcia Brady.

Is the 65-66 windshield and rear glass rubber interchangeable with 67-68's also?

#377
Ok, time for an idiot question, but I can see myself screwing this up pretty quickly.  I am just about to replace my fender badges with some nice NOS ones I got from Bob G, and I honestly am stuck trying to figure out the orientation.  Both pins are angled, but one is angled more.  Which is up?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Fender badge question

Can anyone suggest how best to attach the fender badge emblems to the chromed plastic frame?  I assume it needs an adhesive, but what's best?

I've been studying the different batteries for the Shelby American products used from 1965-1970, and I came across this article:

http://www.mustangandfords.com/featured-vehicles/mump-1101-ford-1965-shelby-gt350/

It is about car 5R213, and the owner says this about it:

"It even has the original Cobra vented battery caps," he says. "There are probably less than a half-dozen left in the world. It's got the genuine battery sitting in the trunk, an Autolite reverse-post 24C series, with the only original negative battery cable I have ever seen."

Is that correct for this model?  Would it have been green lettered?
