1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Carlite question
December 20, 2021, 10:59:02 AM
Getting ready to install the rear window in my KR fastback. I have 2 to choose from, but after cleaning I noticed that one has the 'Carlite' logo in the bottom left corner and the other is in the bottom right corner. Just wondering if it makes a difference. Is there a date code on these, maybe difference from year to year? Not sure which one to use. Would appreciate any advice / input.
                     Thanks, Pete.

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / VIN question.
November 30, 2021, 11:55:07 AM
For the 1969 GT 350, should the door and dash tag consecutive unit number always match the stamped apron number? Just wondering if there were any cars that got different numbers (switched) coming down the assembly line.  Thanks for any help.

Time to put the dash VIN plate and fender apron plate back on my July built KR ( they were already removed when I got the car ).
I've checked in the search feature to determine the correct rivets for each. Having a little trouble. Some posters say to use a plain generic aluminum pop rivet, and others say to use a 'rosette' type rivet. Not sure which is correct. Would really appreciate any input.
   Thanks, Pete.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / KR Crash
February 19, 2021, 03:31:34 PM
Spoke earlier today with a gentleman in Maryland who used to own my KR ( 4052 ).  I was astonished to hear that he bought the car in 1972 after it was involved in a rollover crash in Virginia. Apparently the owner was exiting the freeway and overshot the off ramp resulting in the car rolling and being totaled. It's a black/black fastback, air 4-speed.  Long shot, but does anyone out there recall hearing about such an event in or around 1971-72 ?
A few years back a gentleman named Bill Collins generously provided me with photos and a very interesting story when he purchased it in the 80's I believe.
Again it's a long shot, but I thought I would just throw this out there.
                               Thanks, Pete.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Seam sealer
February 03, 2021, 04:25:56 PM
Any product suggestions for a seam sealer for the trunk/ wheel house area. I used the search and came up with a couple of different products. What do you guys recommend? Or perhaps someone could direct me to a previous post.

                     Thanks, Pete.

Slowly making progress on 4052, and was wondering if someone can answer a question. What colour are the stamped tin covers for the tail light panel? Should they be body colour, or a satin black.
Also, what type of fasteners hold them in place? Should they be a self tapping hex head or a phillips head. I have a bag marked 'back panel' with a bunch of mixed fasteners.  Would appreciate any help. Thanks guys!

SAAC Forum Requests / WIW question.
July 14, 2020, 08:17:34 AM
Not sure I am in the right place, but am I allowed to post a WIW question, and if so where?
                    Thanks, Pete.

Quick question. Maybe Pete can answer this. Has anyone heard of or seen a July built KR using  the long  '69 style '428 cobra jet' emblems?
The emblems on 04052 are long gone, but the adhesive residue strongly resembles the '69 style emblems.
The car is an original paint, 21,000 mile car.

              Thanks, Pete.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / FE intake manifold
January 02, 2020, 09:49:59 AM
 Happy new year to all!
Quick question. Starting to assemble the engine for 04052, and came across an FE intake with the casting number C8OE-9425-A that came with a '68 Cobra Jet engine that I purchased some years ago. It also is cast 8C18 below that number.  Not sure what the application is. The confusing part to me is that on the runner for number 1 cyl., there is the casting CHG-AN and below that the date 7-24-67. I can post some photos if that helps. The build date for my KR is 15U. (july).
      Thanks for any help, Pete.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / The Immortal '68 Shelby
April 01, 2019, 08:23:09 AM
Found a clip on u-tube from the 1968 TV series 'The Immortal'. Any one remember it. The pilot featured a chase between a lime gold fastback and a big 4 door Chrysler. They are being chased through the country and even included the Shelby jumping over a small creek long before the Duke boys did it. lol
Pretty good footage of the car. Too cool.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Quarter panel question
December 04, 2018, 10:43:08 AM
Other than the side louver/cove area and the reflector holes, is there any difference between a '67 and '68 fastback quarter panel?
My buddy is telling me that the wheel lips are slightly different from '67 to '68. Any truth to that?

                 Thanks, Pete.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / KR wheels
April 09, 2018, 03:22:37 PM
Just a quick question about the rims for my KR. I found the date code stamped by the valve stem, but can't seem to find the C8 part number. According to Coralsnake.com there should be a regular part number as well. Is it stamped on the inside of the rim, necessitating the removal of the tire?
Maybe Pete can shed some light for me.

                        Thanks, Pete.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Restoration of 04052
March 08, 2018, 12:53:53 PM
Have been slowly picking away at my KR as time permits. I have recently decided to go in a totally different direction.
The car was crashed and rolled in around 1971, and so had only 21,000 original miles and was still wearing all of it's original black paint except for the roof and right quarter panel. Both were replaced sometime in the '70's/ '80's with a rust free roof skin and a factory Ford quarter panel. Some of the fiberglass was broken beyond repair and the doors and fenders suffered some slight damage. Other than a small hole in the trunk floor and a little rot under the battery box, the car is honestly rust free. Someone also decided to take the 4 speed out through the top, and carved a giant hole in the trans tunnel. I have since repaired that with a patch from a donor tunnel.
Looking at the car I have decided to do some repairs and repaint what is necessary, buffing and preserving as much of the original paint as possible. I'm now planning to put the car back together and drive it.
I am in no way going to try and claim it to be a survivor or low mileage original. I just want to drive it for a couple of years and enjoy it, then make a decision as to the future of KR 04052.

                     Pete.
