Can someone please post a close up of the correct Cobra emblem for a 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500KR fender emblem or let me know which is the correct emblem?
I am trying to figure out if the original Cobra emblems had vertical lines on the front horizontal scales. (see pics)
I recently purchased a set from a reputable dealer and received one of each. And in doing research, I can't seem to ascertain which is correct.
Lastly, does anyone know if the 69-70 Cobras, part # C90Z-16228-A, are the same as the 68 Cobra fender emblem only with a different part number? They have texture on the front horizontal scales.
Different part numbers indicate different parts.
I would say either of the top emblems is correct. Ford made a lot of these sourced over many years.
The reproductions are made by the oem supplier; so the best advice I can give you is dont pay a lot for them.
Maybe someone with a known original can help?
Once again, thank you Coralsnake!
I'm not trying to be anal, I just want to get it as exact as I can!
And the only difference, I could find between the 68 and 69 version was the "texture."
Off hand, do you know what the correct part number would be for the 68?
I will look ot up, but from memory its an S8MS number
You can use these ... personally I woukdnt pay any more

Those were the ones I bought, however they were two different ones
Because of the midyear introduction of this part I see some confusing information, but it appears to be
S8MS-16098-G
But I will do some more digging
That's the problem I have run into as well.
I also read that the 1968 KR's used the same Cobra that was later used on the 69 & 70 Shelbys.
I may have to jump in my Tardis and go back and take a look for myself! :D
There are at least two versions of the 1969 snake
I have only seen the 68 emblem on the many 68 KR survivor cars I have observed. They are heavier too when compared to the 69 emblems and appear to be made out of a different material like pewter? It dulls down compared to the later emblems. They can be hard to distinguish the nuance details compared to the 69 version but as the comparison shows pretty much every aspect is different.
this has been on 3876 since 1991 hopefully since 1968 -has texture
3876
3876
JDAVOLI, Thank you very much!
That does help. I can clearly see the texture.
And I can understand that some of these emblems over time have worn down a bit and / or the dies used to make these become worn and the finer details have are worn out or lost. I just want to put my car back to original as much as possible.
Thanks again!
Bob Gaines, thanks for the pic!
I clearly see the difference. Now I have to find a set.
Any suggestions?
The snake is S8MS-16098-F
The 428 plaque is S8MS-16098-G

The story is that there is this guy Pete Disher that has a entire storage cabinet full but he is a hoarder so it is hard to talk him out of them. His typical story when you ask is that he doesn't have any or that the 69 ones are just as good. I think Coralsnake has contact info on that guy . ;)
coralsnake, for what it's worth, every single thing I pull with that part number is the snake with the cobra plate attached to the bottom.
I even found some like that with that part number stamped on the back. See pic.
Okay, let me keep looking
Thank you!
Looks like I'll be buying if you guys are at SAAC indy this year!
Bob or Coralsnake, if you have any nos parts available for sale, could you please email me at dirpubsaf@aol.com or call/text at 317-557-3061?
Thanks
I still have not found a 1968 part number. It is possible, because its a mid year introduction the snake carries a 1969 number
I am still sorting this out

Thank you so much.
BTW, I have a childhood friend that has a 68 KR that belonged to his Dad and has been sitting garaged since the 70's. The only thing not original is the fuel and oil. It has 15,000 original miles on it. I have tried for years to get him to get it running, but it has too much meaning to him and he won't touch it.
I remember in high school my buddies and I would go over to his house just to stare at the car. :D
I did talk him into sending me a couple of pics of the emblems last night, but they are poor quality. I think I'm going to have to travel and just show up at his house and see if he will let me take some detailed pics.
But of course it won't tell me any part numbers.
I'll attach the pics he sent for what its worth.
Bob,
I finally was able to get hold of Pete Disher and told him you suggested I contact him.
He sounded like he was a little upset and then mentioned your name and made some other statements regarding animal husbandry, restraining orders, sheep, you owing him a substantial amount of money and I swear he said you had something to do with the sinking of the Titanic.
It was awkward to say the least. ;)
Well played

He will get over it ;) :D
Just for the record, Mr Gaines does not owe me any money. The stuff about sheep is totally true. They do have a restraining order against him.
Crackers I say!
:o
