Title: Shelby American plant & shelby museum Las Vegas
Post by: 68krrrr on February 07, 2020, 09:45:42 PM
Last time I went to this they were out by the race track now it's only about 10 minutes from the strip. They give a pretty good guided tour twice a day & it's all free & tour guide is pretty informative ,took about 1 hr at  least going over the whole history including the Chrysler years haha I forgot about those lol. Some nice cars there which are apparently rotated to keep it fresh .Not sure if this 67 was the original super snake or not & a nice 65 .And of course a store full of merchandise with CS name on it ,you name it they had it with a Shelby name  on it everything but the kitchen sink lol, anyway great way to kill an afternoon if you wanna get out of the casinos for a bit.

Glad you had a good visit. I will be there next week and will be visiting with Gary Patterson.  I try to drop in once a year and have been to SA since they first opened out by the track.  I really liked the old location, which was the site for the "SAAC Does Vegas" mini conventions in January.

Alot of Shelby vehicles in the Heritage Collection, especially late model edition prototypes, have been sold of.   a number o cars on display are on temporary loan, especially the early classic Shelby Mustangs.  Sometimes Rick Titus does his live automotive radio show on site. https://www.driverstalk.com/

The Super Snake GT500 is one of ten continuation/re-issue cars:

Don, I believe the one in the first picture was the original on loan to the museum .I had heard the owner had it thewre at one point.  One way to tell is those terrible funky white wall tires that were used one time at the test rack to check for endurance of that model of regular passenger car tires. One of the previous owners found them and thought they were interesting . Speedway small letter tires are what it drove on before and after that tire test back in the day. They are rare but any NOS passenger tire from 1967 would be considered rare too.

Bob, You are correct.  I forgot that it was on display to promote the continuation series.  I wish I had been there when it was on display. 8)
