Title: Voltage Regulator spec.
Post by: shelby001 on September 01, 2019, 10:15:07 AM
Anyone know the proper output of the voltage regulator ? Mine registers  15.24  V to 15 .4 V just wonder if that is normal.

Yes , I believe that's within the proper range. I have heard of 15.5-15.8  Others will know better probably

68 Service specifications book indicate 13.5-15.3 .

Just my $.02.

Learning the car kraft back in the day my mechanic mentor would say 13.5 to 14 at idle with headlights and blower on. 14 to 15 at idle nothing on or higher rpms with stuff on. Anything approaching 16 volts was boil the battery. :)

Many things will affect voltage. A voltage of near 15 volts indicates a fully charged battery. Voltage regulators operate on the inverse, where low voltage would cause higher amperage output and as battery charged ,and voltage would rise amperage would reduce. That is brief explanation of how a Ford voltage regulator operates.

Thanks to everyone that responded  as my voltage regulator is an original & thought  it was not in spec. being  that it  was old .  Go to show old parts keep going.
