Title: 67 Waterpumps
Post by: capecodmustang.com on July 25, 2019, 09:06:56 PM
Are the HP water pumps different than the regular 289s?

Photos perhaps?

Thank you!

Same pump body ,same casting etc. Externally they look identical. The difference is the number of vanes in the impeller pressed into the pump. 6 vanes for the hipo and 8 for regular production The original impellers were cast iron . Rebuilders will some times replace the factory cast iron impellers with sheet metal versions . The hipo 6 vane impeller can be quickly identified by 3 air holes on the backside (when pump is separated from timing cover)  compared to the 8 vane impeller with 4 holes on the backside of the impeller.

Thanks to both of you...

I just got in a 67 GT 350 project from a one-owner family
Trunk was filed with odds and ends for 289HPs
