Chris Thauberger's interesting post of old ad artwork has me wondering if George Bartell's original artwork still exists? Is it in a museum or somewhere it could be viewed?
Just Googled George Bartell's name and found this link. I didn't know he painted album covers...Sinatra!

+1 great link and interesting George did the album covers. I seem to remember George doing a series of posters for each NFL team back in the 60's or 70's also. They may have been available for sale through Sports Illustrated (?) not sure.
Does anyone know the back-story to him connecting with Shelby? It sounds like George bought a Cobra and maybe that started the relationship?
At one of the earlier SAAC conventions (Dearborn maybe?) many of his one of a kind pieces were up for sale. I'm sure someone can elaborate. So yes, much of it does exist in private hands.

I think I bought my Broncos and Chiefs posters from sears around 1972 or so.
Yes, George was at an early Dearborn convention along with Bill Neale and several other automotive artists of note. George had some originals on display at the evening program...beautiful stuff. He also was selling & signing posters. I believe Pete Brock had some Bartell stuff on his BRE website.
No Bartell's in my collection. I had a couple posters but sold them. Next I'll drag out all my Neal's & Honegger's to transfer to the next generation. Some of them I purchased at that early convention SAAC5 (???) others I've added over the years.
Now I know the artist.
His World Champion 1965 poster was stunning art work when I got mine in 1965 and it remains so today.
I think Lynn Park helped him in his old age, and got his art work.....or much of it...second hand info I'm afraid....

He often did "request" work for some of us in So Cal. I have a few as well as many of my friends.
