Title: 1967 # 2939
Post by: rbarkley on November 24, 2018, 05:08:03 PM
I saw this on craigslist ...

https://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/d/1967-shelby-mustang-fastback/6744407622.html

Very interesting and original paperwork.  What is the C5AZ identifier on the dealer installed FE 427?

Registry does indicate that the car was "towed into J.D. Ball on 4/24/68 after #3 piston came off the connecting rod ..."

Well, not original, but if " interesting" means fake, I guess so. What the old boy doesnt realize that almost every piece of original paperwork on my website has some identifier built into it to prevent this exact situation. That is not even JD Ball's letterhead.  :D

Oh, the Shelby tag is a fake too...

On top of that originally a automatic car switch to a 4 speed and a color change car. It looks like a nice personalized car but what I object to is all of the BS deception in the description.

I suppose they could have used the artwork from the back of an old postcard to type up the fact they sold a race engine. I mean why waste a perfectly good invoice?

Ha ha  ;)

I agree this is where this forum is really needed. With the new registry updates we are doing hopefully we can try update info and cut down this sort of pookie BS
Cheers

Other than the Shelby tag looking new, what gives it away as a fake?

Export brace and washer bag appear wrong too?  Probably shouldn't even be a bag being this late of a car but I'm no expert like the rest of you.

That's why if someone is interested in something there are a few guys on here that could put some eyeballs on subject matter, and give us an authentic scoop. The brotherhood of muscle pertains to Shelby brothers, as well as Mopar lover brotherhood. ;)

If someone would fake a piece of paperwork, what do you think they could do with a detailed explanation of why the tag has been restamped?

That radiator support  shouldn't be painted either.
Nice driver none the less but why not just disclose it's true history.

He claims one of 50 documented dealer installed 427's.

Are there any accepted cases of dealer installed 427's?

I bet there are 50 1967s that now have 427s just not dealer installed. ;D

The seller has that info screwed up just like other things in his description. The 50 cars comes from what Mel Burns Ford had for pie in the sky proposed builds of his supersnake cars. As for dealer installed I know scores of phony's and bogus paperwork. This latest one is just one more phony.  A few years back none had shown up yet . Dave Mathews may have updated info on that now. I saw one legitimate 427 dealer installed about 15 years ago where the owner was entering it in concours. He had genuine paperwork the only problem was the install was done in 1975 if I remember correctly. He wasn't allowed to enter it in concours competition because it was done after the car was delivered new to the first customer.

As some may recall, there was a time when everyone that had one claimed it was FACTORY installed. Well, at least until all the Ford records and SAAC invoices appeared.

The second phase was some diehards changed their stories to dealer installed. Most changed to owner installed.

Now we are in the third phase, copying artwork from dealer postcards and typing your own documentation.

Its not the first time someone has lifted documents from my website, thats why they have minor alterations, from the originals.

You certainly were showing good responsibility when you initiated those artwork precautions. Pete 1 ,poser 0 in this case.  ;D

As an honest guy it always boggles my mind the levels at which folks go to fake stuff.

A great thing to watch if its available in the states is a program on wine fakery. This chines/japanese guy came on the wine scene and became the number one expert. he was buying an selling crazy priced wine like it was going out of style. Instantly became the go to guy for wine collectors with his knowledge

He was however busted. His factory was his mothers kitchen!!! made all the labels and aged them himself. Made up the history on the wines as well (where found/bought/sold) it was insane

just shows, where there it money folks will go to great lengths to get it.

I have come up short a few times by honoring my word or doing the right thing.

Yeah, it sucks sometimes. But is still the right thing to do.

Lead guy doing that was busted cold because he made a label for a very valuable wine,..for a year the vineyard never actually made it. I think I saw it on a 60 minutes type show. Was very interesting.

Too bad Pookie never spent any time in Mayberry.  Andy and Barnie would have busted him for selling faulty parts for their Galaxie 500 police cruiser.  LoL!

Great little town if you have not made the visit.  We even took a tour in the police car and ate a pork chop sandwich at Snappy's!

OMG  ::) . I thought I would checkout the items "theroadcars" and found so many down right phony items or incorrect information it would take hours to write up explanations or warnings for the many auctions he has on. A few items look like they could be legit as per the description but the guys credibility is 0 unlike his 100% ebay satisfactory rating (go figure) so you just don't know.

In allot of scams it's important to pepper a little truth, value, authentic items .... in with the mix

Agreed not worth the effort, risk or even rewarding him in any way
