A great day in automotive history!
Awesome mate, thanks for sharing! Wish I would have known this morning, I would have been stung or all day 8)
Life altering in all seriousness to those into the Shelby Mustang. My red has certainly improved the quality of my life. The car simply makes me happy and that is a prudent goal to pursue in life.
Nice comparison to Mantle. Thnx for sharing.
Still an important day for a lot of us.
It was the start of quite a journey.

A landmark day again.

That must've been quite an impression to see one back then for the first time. I mean cars from the 50s did not have the same look so the 65 Shelby was quite futuristic.
My first time encounter was at the 65 Chicago auto show. I was just a youngster but I looked the car over a very long time. Best looking car there in my opinion. Some guy came up to me and said by the time I get a drivers license that car will be a forgotten antique.
The first one(s) I ever saw was sometime in '65 when my dad drove me down Imperial Blvd to see the S-A facility.
From the outside of the fence, that is.
Dad worked at nearby Hughes Aircraft, and a Shelby was THE thing.
The first '65 I saw was Comstock's 5R096 at Mosport, Canada, in June '65.
This might have been here earlier ? here's a clipping from the Feb. 13th. '65 Issue of Autoweek/Competition Press, says this is the
first photo of a '65 ? The copy says it will be shown to the press on Jan. 25th. '65 Last two lines mention there was a driving
impression by Ed Leslie, Dec. 23rd. '64 issue of the same paper, does any one have a copy of it ? some conflicting dates there,
the paper was published bi-weekly at the time I believe.
