Since I am A) Getting old, B) have my Registry and all SAAC publications in storage do to a relocation; my question is what is the correct finish on the underside of an all steel hood? I have a friend who has a fairly late 66 that he purchased in 1967 with the underside finished in satin/semi-gloss black. The hood I have had in my possession since the late 1970's has no evidence of body color or black.
I am leaning on body color, but would not be disappointed with the black underside.
Thank you in advance for your replies.
Joe
Originally and typically, the finish (as received from the supplier) was a semi-gloss, more towards the flatter side) before the exterior color was applied to the top and edges of the hood. Overspray would have been introduced to the undersides from those angles and some though the scoop opening though not a lot.
Here are examples from seven different later built unrestored 66 GT350's for your consideration

In the example below both pictures are the same car but wanted to mention that since the pictures were taken outside in strong sunlight so some of what some may be seeing and thinking is red overspray is reflected red exterior colors from the tops of the fenders. But there is a fair amount of red overspray around the outer edges.

Love seeing the runs in the base coat of paint :)
Hi Jeff, Is this also typical of the fiberglass/steel frame hoods?
Thanks
Cory

Yes
Somewhat covered in this earlier thread. With a nice original example on a red car in reply #6.
